When I posted my negative feelings for Win10[^], there were hose who seemed hell-bent on defending it. I suppose whatever you read never happened, lest their narrative lose it's veracity. One is left wondering what fraction of users need to be upgraded without their permission; what percentage of users need to have their O/S elephanted by this Edsel[^]-software before they note that there's a problem and it's a big one?

I'm still using it, but I'm pretty sure Win7 was better from a user POV. And I'm doing extra image backups in case the damn thing bricks the PC upgrading to AE... :sigh:
Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...

Don't exaggerate. There are many, many of us who have had 0 problems with win10 on many different devices. That's all I saw people say.
There are only 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't.

talk about exaggeration! But seriously, if it were 'only' a few percent of the people who's system's are trashed by this it really really bad. Just imagine if your PC's CPU was 99.999% accurate. It would be all but unusable. Forcing upgrades and updates, and even with XP I've had a few cause problems, isn't right. At least, given the choice, one could refuse a particular "upgrade". Consider the number of actual regulars in the lounge and how many have had their system unpleasantly modified or even trashed by Win10: it's starting to be a Leslie in its own right.

Why?
There are only 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't.
Because it's my computer. I bought it. It's mine to do with as I wish. If Microslut (or anyone else) wishes to make use of it then they can pay for the privilege. For those who like that model, they've products like Office365 - where you use whatever they have to offer on the web and they can change it at will - and for those who don't - they buy the software outright. They do make you buy Win10, don't they? [TOS doesn't cut it]. Leading back to my statement in a different thread: My upgrade from Win7 will be Linux.

And you chose to install a Microsoft operating system and chose to agree to their terms. It is your computer, so if you don't like it then install something else. That is your right. It is also their right to update their software whenever they want to. In fact, they have to or else they face serious legal consequences for not keeping a product secure.

Ya, I tried that. Good luck. Linux sucks. Hopefully it works for you.

You need to do better than that. At the very least explain how Windows differs from macOS or anything Google has released in terms of tracking what you do.

I guess what he meant is he won't use any OS at all :-) Not sure how he managed to post on this forum though.

Andriod does the same. My wife got a new samsung, the day before yesterday the nano card arrived, so I activated the cell phone and started configuring it... 1 hour later I had gone through 90% of the settings and guess what... Popup notification Andriod is Updating... :omg: :omg: :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: I let it go, went to bed and yesterday continue with it... almost all settings I had changed on tuesday where back to default value, most of them allowing access to micro, pictures and so on to the Google Apps, activating settings that I had inactivated... I found it not so different to what you describe about microsoft

... Except that you can switch it off and only get notifications about updates*, which you can then choose to install or not. * Open the Google Play app, go to Account > Settings, and it's the first setting in the list.

When you buy an android or apple mobile device, you have no choice in what OS you use. On your PC/laptop, you do. Even Apple desktops/laptops can have Windows or Linux installed as opposed to the native Apple OS. I've never had anything but an android phone (current phones is a Samsung Galaxy 5s), and none of the ones I've owned have ever once auto-updated anything. Ever. My problem with Win10 is that it carries the "app store" paradigm over to the PC, and forces updates on you. I don't want that. If I did, I'd have an Apple where it's pretty much always been that way.

I am glad I do not use this as when Windows is updating it takes all my very limited band width. Hey, 0.7 M download is smokin fast where I am.
