So I am a CEO now!

Went to the Dutch Chamber of Commerce yesterday to finish my CoC registration and so Juun Software was born! :D I'll be switching to a 32 hour work week for my current employer and spend at least 8 hours a week for my own business. I'm already working on a project (some custom software for a startup), but it's hard next to a 40 hour work week. I've got everything covered financially, so I can just sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride :D So remember that name, Juun Software. You'll be seeing it next to Microsoft, Apple, and Google in a couple of years ;p

Very cool. My ratio is 24 / 16, but I told them (my employer) that if they actually have enough work and interesting work worthy of my time -- their words, not mine -- that I would consider 32 / 8.

Good luck - pro tip: make customer relations your #1 priority. Then make it your #2 one as well. Customers will be more forgiving of late delivery, bugs, whatever than they will be of being left in the dark and not communicated honestly with.

I hope to go to 24/16 in a year or so. The next step would be full time I guess. The benefit of 32/8 is that I don't need any income from my own business at all to pay my bills and so I've got practically 0% (financial) risk.

Best of luck. When I started out with Comport Computing, I had a similar desire to yours. But, I ended up being the CEO and Janitor, too. I left a 40 hour work week and ended up working 80 hours a week. I did have more fun and made more mon ey than before, but relaxing only made me lose business. Then I ended up losing it all when I had a stroke. Now I'm trying to figure out how to start over again. Some people never learn, not even the hard way. I'm still finishing a PHD and a business degree, too. I could just retire, but I tried that fpor a few days and decided it was too boring!

Thanks Walt! It's good to see you, legible and all (those "stroke posts" had us worried) :D Awesome to see you're picking it up again. Good luck with your degrees.

but be careful making your relations customers (relatives/friends) - too often ends badly.

I've worked for my uncle for a couple of years (and he worked for my parents for about 12 years). It had good times and some less good times. He may be my second customer though :D
