It's a pretty jumpy movie (especially if the bass is good at your local cinema), and there are some disturbing scenes involving wolverine (i.e skeleton galvanising and a lot of stabbing and slashing), but it's pretty tastefully done (no big sprays of gore). As far as I know, X2's a 12A, so ur 5-yo won't get in! :wtf:

Kid-time adverts: a captive audience! What can I say? At least it's not Christmas, cuz if it was then she'd be askin for new barbie stuff or whatever! ;) At the end of the day, it's your call, but you might want to go see it first alone just to be sure...

You should do... don't know about you but my first A level exam's on the 19th, and the rest are about two weeks after that. Go out and enjoy yourself with ur mates while there's still time! :eek:

Hoping it'll be the end of his exams by December, so that we can really get down to some serious travelling before settling down and having a family. X-Men 1 was a pilot episode. X-Men 2 is the introduction. X-Men 3 is going to be the kicker. I thought X-Men 1 was a good movie. A fun entertaining romp of kick-ass effects, cool characters and interesting locations. Now though I see all it really was was a pilot episode, an idea-floater. Would we respond well to a movie with mutants in it? Could we identify or would we be revolted, intolerant and non-understanding? The movie was a resounding success. With the concept proven, X-Men 2 could be subtler, more mature and truer to the point of X-Men. I was really quite taken aback by just how good it was, far beyond my expectations. I thought it was going to be more of the same "skop, skiet, en donner"* but subtle touches like the quite moving flash back to Wolverine seeing his claws for the first time in the tunnel and the pain in his face as he killed the woman with the claws showed that to not be the case. There were some very raw and untamed moments in X-Men 2, quite unlike what you expect from Hollywood. Kids could have watched X-Men 1 and enjoyed it, but I don't seem them enjoying X-Men 2 half as much. A far more mature movie IMO, with a well put message to all of us. We often rate Sci-Fi movies seperately from other supposedly more serious genres. SF is often shielded from the worst critics because it is Sci-Fi and we go to watch the cool effects and scary aliens. Just like SF literature was considered a poorer cousin intellectually way back when so SF movies of today are considered there just for eye candy and not for their meaning. I honestly think X-Men 2 though can be considered a very good movie on any level. Strip away the effects and it still works very well. So there you go folks, I think it was a fantastic film. Matrix Reloaded had better be a quantumn shift better or I feel it will be trumped by X-Men 2. Believe me, that says a lot coming from me. *Afrikaans for an action flick. Kick, shoot and beat-up. Probably the only thing I don't like much about the movie versions of X-Men is their portrayal of Rogue. She is a fine character in the movies, but nothing like the character I know from the TV series. Maybe a X-Men fan can tell me; Is the Rogue in the comic books the Rogue in the movies and does she only later become the woman you see in the TV series?

I have to agree with the general consensus here; the film is pretty great, and the effects are awesome. Having read the comics as a kid, I'm pleased to say that the transition from comic strip to movie screen has been a sucessful one, and that the characters remain as rock-solid as ever, only this time there's more of them! :-D
There are loads of new characters that I've never seen before (such as "I can make my body metal" guy and "big loud scream girl" :confused: ), so it seems that there's no shortage of individual plotlines to follow. If I had to fault it, the ending did leave way too many loose ends, but then we all know that the third one is coming! I'd say this is probably the best film around at the mo, but the Reloaded WILL kick ass... :cool:

The "I can make my body metal" guy is Colossus (Piotr Rasputin - Russian) and "big loud scream girl" is Siryn (Theresa Cassidy - Irish). Colossus has been a prominent character in the XMen universe for a very long time and Siryn is the daughter of Banshee also a long time character. Steve

It is always nice to be able to share (not to humble) some of my trivia knowledge (not to mention that I have an X-Men collection that goes back to 1963 including the very first #1 issue). So much of my brain is filled with the stuff (trivia), its nice to know the space is useful for something...:) Steve

Damn - it's so hard to find old threads when notifications go to Hotmail! I actually work in Maidstone, but live in Orpington as my husband works in the city. He takes the train, and I drive down the M20 each morning :) You're right about Bluewater, it's pretty awesome. Only problem is, we end up with aching feet before we can get round the whole place...
