Right now, we have adverts in the subway here in Stockholm that promise to make you into a Java developer in less than 3 weeks...

About the same time some sect needs to assimilate and brainwash new members. That explains a lot.

And they will. Not one that can survive without SO and CP, and probably one that is quite a bit poorer at the end of the course than they were at the beginning, but ...

I think most syllabus content includes just one line of text. "Go to CodeProject to answer all of your homework questions."

Lately, I've been hearing an advertisement on the radio that goes something like this... "Meet Joe. A year ago he was working in a big box store selling car stereos. Now Joe has a promising career in Information Technology working fewer hours and making more money. You too can have start a new computer career in as little as 4 months..." :omg: What the elephant

It was a bunch of Jawas sitting around the server, performing rituals and chanting, to fix a memory leak. In their religion you don't do that by looking for the bug in the code. Instead, you perform some rituals to please the garbage collection. And I thought that cargo cults only existed on islands in the Pacific.

"Career in Information Technology" doesn't mean anything, Joe is a janitor in some IT department.

Yes, very much. There is a senior level developer at work who sent his son to one of those $15,000 bootcamps and the kid could no get a job afterwards. The kid did not have any previous experience or university studies. I get the total cringes when a student spends years at a for profit institution university and goes into major debt, sometimes 6 figures, and still cannot get a job. Obama went after them and even the military cut off the GI bill, but they're making a comeback.
