Don't forget the "loot box" scandals too. That's so bad even governments and stepping in. It's a shame Bethesda didn't learn from No Man's Sky policy of "just release now, we'll actually make it game later and people can just keep downloading massive updates". Maybe they thought their name and loyal fan base would carry them.

And how is this different from what Microsoft does?

First there was the "Diablo, Immortal" debacle... Then "Fallout 76"... What's next? :(( Please, don't disappoint CD Projekt, be our savior! Let's "Cyberpunk 2077" live up to the hype!! :-\ [EDIT] I was reminded, there is also the EA Lootboxes debacles.

Just google Fallout 76... Soon after, if you were ever thinking to buy it, you will probably change your mind. Issues ranges from: gameplay, content, bugSSS (horrendous frame rate, obvious clipping issues, outdated graphics, zero damage bug, stupid AI - monster standing still)

My daughter spent 5 hours downloading Fallout 76 on a slow Wifi at college on the first day. Then they dropped the price a few days later.

It's a fun game, I've been playing a lot of it since it was released. It is not as bad as the internet makes it There are some bugs and game mechanics issues, but, at least for me, has been working fine.

I don't have problems with Fallout 76. Been playing it since release, with only one or 2 crashes and maybe 3 server disconnect. Me think a lot of people are too serious in regards to games and gaming.

If X4 is as bad as X Rebirth, I will fully agree with you. I have hope for it but I am not pre-ordering this time around due to getting burned by X Rebirth and its inability to live up to its own hype. On all other accounts, every other game released this year (that I bought) was disappointing in many ways. I'm a PC gamer so I couldn't talk about console games.

I would say that is more DLC, which has been around for years. But yeah, the whole bunch of "added extras" is rubbish. One of the things that used to make a game good for me is the reply factor, the ability to unlock extra content by doing various tasks. Things like extra characters, or costumes, or weapons, etc. Now you just pay extra for them, which takes away all the fun.

I believe the whole "loot box" scandal had to do with gambling laws. The way the loot boxes were set up, they worked more like digital slot machines. You pay to get them and you may or may not get anything good. It is a method to keep people spending money on loot boxes rather than playing the game.

Good for those who like to spend big money on "added extras". Not so good for those who are starting with these games. Money can't buy everything, but in this case money can buy bigger and better costumes or weapons or shields.

2018 was a good year for gaming (for me). It's the year I started my tabletop game collection (as well as Tabletop Simulator). There is a board game for everyone, from dungeon crawlers to games where you feed a panda. Watch a couple of Shut Up and Sit Down videos on YouTube. Plus tabletop games have something that PC games lost a long time - a nice large cellophane wrapped box!
