Never said I'm US born. Otherwise, with this grammar, I would be a little retarded. Was brought here long time ago, after I made some interesting applications in cryptography. From Bulgaria(google it). With an airplane. That's how I first found for my problem with long haul flights. And the last time I was forced to have one, it took near a year to put me together. I'm not going trough this crap again.

If you had to point it out, that's because you know somebody was going to. What's a "real" American beer anyway?

Why would that matter? He just does not like long flights.

Nish, if you need to, you can borrow my reading glasses. To quote Deyan Also I hate foreign countries doesn't seem to be a flight anxiety thing at all so Urban Crickets question seems very valid to me.

Hi Guys, I hope you're doing fantastic. Please share you experience. I know the mileage may vary, but I've been out of the market for too long - 10 years, so have no idea how it's outside these days. I have enough resources to survive for one year. Max. Do you think that will be enough? Also, can you please share some headhunters in the tri-state area? Have experience with practically every common language/DBA system and most of the technologies. No web development or WPF though. Quite impressive resume including - from Visa and Mastercard to container vessels. I'm 42 yo and with almost 20 years of working experience + real education (master in CS). The thing is my company sends me temporally to Germany, and I suffer from severe anxiety and cannot board airplane. Also hate foreign countries. Which in my case renders me useless for my current position(manager).

Wow, the US job market must be quite good (assuming you are in the US) that you would leave your position just because you hate flights... :omg: Here, nobody would leave a place even if they would beat us with barbed wire and use Lotus notes as email client.

At the risk of howls of derision from other freelancers, do try places like PeoplePerHour and other online work auction sites. (Caution - only use ones where you can actually discuss requirements with the buyer before making a firm bid!) Yes, it's a rubbish market and yes, some buyers expect stupid rates. (I once saw a request for someone to build a site "a bit like google and ebay" and with a budget of $200). However, since 2008 100% of my clients have come either directly or indirectly through that route. For a couple of years I was earning roughly 3x what I ever thought could be my maximum income through contracting, as a result of bidding for a $200 one-day javascript gig that led to more work with the same client, and his associates, and their associates... I'm now semi-retired and have been for 18 months, ticking over with past clients and still getting direct requests from new clients through PPH. If nothing else, it's a great opportunity to practice your self-marketing skills, and if you win some bids, you at least get a bit of income. More importantly you refresh your skills, widen your experience, and learn from other people's mistakes. And the best bit? Absolutely no flying involved! :-D Don't join a site that requires you to "buy" bids with real cash, and you've nothing to lose.

fair enough, but these sites don't just provide coders; plenty of other technical and non-tech requirements there. I do non-development work through them as well as coding jobs.

One anxiety disorder is often combined with others. "Also I hate foreign countries" - I'm rather reading that as that he's having fear of the unknown, in one or several ways, not necessarily that he hates foreigners as such. (still possible of course, but I wouldn't bet on it) My wife suffers from anxiety, so I sadly know a bit about it.

If you're willing to relocate, you could get a job in three months. Lots of jobs in Boston. Cost of living is high though.

The number of breweries is astounding. I happen to like Boatswains Double IPA. For an auslander, you'd probably want some sort of brand name - like Sam Adams. There's an series of Fish Head IPA's. There's Stockyard Oatmeal Stout. If on went to a 'beer distributor', one could spend a very long time just trying to read all the labels. For me - it's a double delight. I've always liked hoppy beer - and for now at least, it's in fashion. Even if the fashion changes they'll still be around. Long ago, for my thesis, I had Carlsburg Elephant and Gosser Stiftsbrau - such exotica is no longer necessary and easily surpasses.

Then you shouldn't have popped your head up and show the world your arse. Maybe it's due to English being a secopnd language but your comment was xenophobic at the least. But that is only if I give you the benfit of the doubt. I give no one that benefit.

I-95 is 1,919 miles long, running from the Maine/Canada border to Miami, FL. The length of time to find a job will vary with the location. "Tri-State" area could be Maine/NH/Massachusetts, Massachusetts/Rhode Island/Connecticut, etc. Your question is too wide open for anyone here to provide a valid answer. What I can guarantee is that if you can't be more precise in your resume and job interviews you won't find a position that you like.

Whoa! I'd seen no aggressive stance from anyone … up until this point. Go easy there man

I got to the end of the page and no one actually answered you question. In my experience the problem is the Recruiting companies, hiring managers and the interview. Those folks almost never advertise for what they want. Mostly because they do not know themselves. So they ask for Super-Developer/Programmer. Once you get your Resume' out there the Recruiters take a shotgun approach and your are inundated with a ton of "opportunities" with requirements that don't match your skillset (or anyone alive today, except maybe God). As for length of time it is totally random. A lot depends on your requirements. Are you willing to re-locate for a 6 month contract? Are you adamant about staying at home? Are you looking for contract to hire and so on. I have worked 3 contract jobs in my 36 year career. All with reasonably satisfactory results for both parties. I would suggest Dice.com and VirtualVocations.com as places to start and get your resume' out there.
