When I was required to do that with VS2017, I just made up a dummy email and password. That pacified the installer so all's good.

Not that passport, but the service called "MS Passport". Your emailadress must be registered there.

You may be thinking of .Net Core. Even still, a new version of VS every two years is two often.

But VS has been there for so long. I am still using VS 2015. I wonder what significant change might have happened between 15 and 19.

Ah that kind off "passport", didn't even know about that service (or I did and forgot). I was thinking the physical passport thing ;P It's possible my email is linked to it, don't remember doing that but ...

I got annoyed by that too but I think I got around it. I just clicked away the dialogue. But then I could mis-remember - that was some while ago. I am happily on Linux these days and VS Code installed like a charm, but I assume it does not have all the dotnet-goodies.

They have VS2019 for mac - why can't we get it for linux as well?

Well, 17 allows you to do core 2.n razor razor pages. I don't know if you can do that with 2015. 19 allows you to do Core 3.0.

When you pry the gun from my cold dead hands, be careful - the barrel will be very hot. - JSOP, 2013Yes. Downloaded and installed last night, and used it all day today. The new "start window" thing's a tad annoying, but I didn't spend a huge amount of time looking at the old "start page" anyway. Top-level extension menus (eg: ReSharper) have been moved under a single "Extensions" item, which was a bit jarring at first. But that's probably a good excuse to learn more of the keyboard shortcuts. :) ReSharper 2019 is still in "EAP", so it occasionally pops up it's "unhandled exception" notification. But that happens with every EAP version. GhostDoc 2019 is still in beta, and doesn't provide a beta for the community edition, so that's not installed yet. Otherwise, no complaints. Feels like a slightly more polished turd version of VS2017. :-D

I installed one of the pre-release versions and tried it out. No issues, but then again I pretty much just stick to vanilla C# programming -- console or WinForm apps.

I had a play with it yesterday on a VM. Seems pretty good, but like you, my code is pretty vanilla and WinForms based. The part I was looking forward to testing is the full implementation of .Net Core 3 and WinForms so I don't have to worry about .Net versions on pcs, but alas, VS2019 Winforms and .net Core 3 isnt fully here yet....

And just as it gets "there", MS will abandon it and leave us hanging, yet again... Wash, rinse, repeat.
