Colossal Cave (PDP-10), Flight Simulator and Wizardry (Apple ][+), Arcticfox (Amiga 2000), and the Myst series. I've tried a few since then, but the only ones that managed to hold my interest were Obduction, Firewatch, and The Witness. I no longer have any interest in "real-time" games, which eliminates a lot of them.

The old DOS version circa 1982? Could you land the plane? Or did you do like everyone else and fly around until you crash landed? :-D

I used to have an XBox 360, but two RRODs put me right off consoles. Pity, it was good while it worked (and cheaper than gaming spec PC's). Oblivion on XBox was very nice, better than the PC version on mouse and KB.

This is one thing I love about 2(.5)-D fighting games, platformers, metroidvanias, roguelikes, and card games. You don't need an insane rig to play them. You can pretty much play them on anything built in the last 10-15 years, even if it's a gorgeous game like Hollow Knight, the Ori games, etc.

I don't recall landing it successfully! Not until there was PC version with graphics that were more realistic. :)

Curious, I've discovered that quite a few members here play video games when they are not writing code. Some of you even design game mods. What games are you playing in your spare time?

Classic Windows Solitaire, and if I've got the time, ye olde Mahjong Titans. I don't think I have the wiring to play modern games.

Colossal Cave used to be available on the Amazon App Store. Might still be. Rogue was the first game where I was involved in reverse engineering. There was a fairly weak scramble on the “god” password.

Oxygen not Included; 3041 hours Rimworld; 6546 hours That's just the single player ones.. Been on/off playing Warcraft, and now playing Diabolo 3. After logging all these hours you might expect an experienced gamer. I'm definitely not :D

Superhot (lab scene in endless mode only) on PC and Scrabble on phone for burning time. Severed Steel third, but I like it's music better than the gameplay, I am growing old for action games.

Currently I am playing an ancient game, commando's behind enemy lines. I was talking with someone about ancient software and games and then I remembered this one, so I searched on it and found that many old games are "fixed" to run on modern windows. I guess in a week or so I loose interest again...

Last time I played WoT (couple of years ago) I was under the impression from the in-game "chat" that the Russian Mafia were playing the game as much as financing it.... :-D

I've been playing computer games since the seventies (Colossal Cave started it), but Doom (and then Doom II) became an addiction. It's GTA V at the moment - the new (and free) Contracts DLC is pretty good, and great for grinding. Especially this week when Payphone Hits (Assassination missions with an optional-but-lucrative bonus for taking them out in a specific way such as driving them into the sea in a taxi) are paying double. And the Dr Dre contact missions introduced me to the Combat MG which is now my weapon of choice. When I grow bored of that, I'll probably move to The Witcher III.

Currently playing Witcher 3. Previous addictions have included Shogun Total War (the very first Total War title - still play it...), Medieval Total War (the first version), European Air War (flight sim) and Fallout: New Vegas. Have finally weaned myself off Borderlands and Borderlands 2 - six weeks clean and taking it day by day....

Like to play Age of Empires. Working on an implementations of 19th century Prussian / British / American "war gaming". Have found the roots of current games rules back to 1824. Only the distances, fire and casualty rates change. And formations. They had tables, index points, scaling factors, peg boards, "sounding boards" used to count off without looking. Large scale maps and true-to-scale unit blocks (a first). Standards and time intervals which could be varied according to the situation (frames). Lots of data collection and analysis. Just missing a computer. Also, they had the "fog of war" (multiple maps; screens). And the uncertainty / friction factor (dice). The AI / final call was an umpire.

Can't belive yours is the only mention of Age of Empires. I was too young to play AoE1 so I started off with AoE2 and then AoM and AoE3. I bought all the definitive editions on Steam and am now trying out AoE4 on Gamepass but will probably wait for a deep discount before buying it on Steam. You?

                                      Cheers, Vikram.

I'm kind in a lull in my game playing. Been replaying Fallout 4, Fallout 3, Skyrim (done with them for now) Been playing Fallout 76 (mostly stopped playing), Cyberpunk 2077 (mostly stopped playing, waiting for patchs/updates) , Age of Empires 4 (mostly stopped), Humankind (stopped playing, not my kind of game). Waiting for Starfield.

                                          CI/CD = Continuous Impediment/Continuous Despair
