Sound of the Week

Bert Kaempfert and his Orchestra - Indische Waterlelies (Indian Water Lilies)[^] Took my cousin, sister of my recently deceased cousin, and a friend of hers to the Efteling last week. The Efteling is a Dutch attraction park and one thing they do right is music. Each attraction is in style from the moment you enter the queue, and dedicated music is a part of that. The Indian water lilies, while being an old and boring attraction (just some dolls doing a dance and playing music) it's iconic and the music is great. Played it with an orchestra once myself, played the snare drum too. This was the only attraction where we stopped just to listen to the music. It was pretty busy, but we had a great day nonetheless. Proved to them I wasn't some old office fart (they clean my office) and especially that friend proved she wasn't the sweet and silent girl I thought she was :laugh: How to become favorite cousin in a day :cool:

Nice piece. Rather enjoyable. Reminiscent of the 60s. Glad I heard it. Subscribed. Looking forward to investigating further. The critic in me chooses not to restrain myself so I will say I was surprised by the constant repetition of the horns in the foreground. I am glad the background offered variety. Imho the foreground should evolve as well. You of course know more about music than I so I bow (but not really) to your superior knowledge.

One of my favorite tunes from B.K. is Wonderland by Night. Very relaxing music.
De Indische Waterlelies is actually his only song I know :laugh: Wonderland by Night sounds nice though.

I rarely listen to lyrics. Only when I really like a song and want to sing along. Other than that it's just another instrument to me. Not quite my cup of tea. Not a fan of acoustic guitars and his kind of singing. Good performance though.

I think that's the strength of the song, it's just catchy as heck! Listen to it once and you know it and can hum along :D It's easy listening really. As you said, the background offers some variety which prevents it from getting boring. So I think your analysis is spot on ;)

Smart idea, you both probably needed the diversion. I know I do not know what you are going through but my heart aches for your pain.
I’ve given up trying to be calm. However, I am open to feeling slightly less agitated.
Thanks, but I'm alright. It's very sad, and going back to the office last week stung (because he was also a sort of coworker, as is my uncle), but he wasn't that big a part of my life (yet). As his sister said, from all his cousins you went from knowing him least to knowing him best in just a few months. Things would probably have been different if he was more social, but he wasn't. It's just a shame I didn't get to know him better and never will. Talking about it is still hard on me, but other than that I'm fine. I feel for my uncle and aunt, especially my uncle who built a special bond with his son in the last year where they worked together and who drove the car when the accident happened. We're going to the Beekse Bergen (safari vacation park) for a few days with the family next week (which was already planned) and they're still coming too. Hopefully that'll get their mind of things for a bit.

On 2nd listening I conclude you are correct. The repetition was somewhat catchy and I noticed variations in it I did not prior. Also for a brief little song it is a bit much to expect a Beethoven Symphony.
