I'm getting a new (first!) employee in two weeks. While this is a joyous occasion, having to install his laptop is not. First of all, I am required to sign in using a private Microsoft account, so a live or outlook email account. Nice way to start someone else's business laptop. So I do this, hoping (but knowing better) I can change this later. After signing in, a user folder is created with the first five letters of your first name, so in my case "sande". That's a default no one with a name longer than five letters would ever want, but alright. I can probably change that too. Right? RIGHT!? Hell no. I can switch to a local account, but the user folder is still "sande", my OneDrive is still signed in and the profile picture is still mine. The OneDrive and user picture are easy enough, although signing out of OneDrive still leaves personal files on the laptop. Changing the user folder name requires some hacking and some registry editing. Long story short, I'm currently doing a system restore and it's hanging at 62% :|

I plan on using this when I will eventually install W11: Windows 11 Superlite: No Bloatware and Telemetry - YouTube[^] Of course there is the danger of using a custom made image from the Internet so make your own judgement. There is also the way to skip login during install: Don't give Microsoft what they want... - YouTube[^]. Hope that helps-

Look closely - there is an option to install without any online account! I just did it a week ago... Look for 'sign-in options' (but maybe it is only for the professional edition)

MS has said they were going to remove the ability to do that from everything except the enterprise/education versions. If they've followed through...

Use Rufus to flash the installation media next time. Your first comment about having to sign into a Microsoft Account is inaccurate. The way to avoid this is to tell the setup program you're joining a domain. Then, while the setup program continues to nag you for a Microsoft account, you create a local user account. This user account is a full Administrator on the machine.

I'm guessing your comment is inaccurate because it never asked that. Probably because this computer comes preinstalled with Windows 11 Home edition and I'm only upgrading it to Pro after being logged in.

I had a similar experience for my personal laptop. I want this laptop to just open and be in Windows without any authentication. It took some work to make that happen. Its like they want it harder to use. And don't get me started about the new start bar. Removing the "Never Combine" and making it only take 10% of usable space for open applications is a mess. (Dangit, I got started)

You can get around that. There are a few YT videos floating around to show you how. It's a total pain, but at least it's possible.

I have done that since the first install of windows 10. Luckily I haven't had to check if it works in windows 11 (yet) :-D

I'm using Release 22621.1413.54.5 · valinet/ExplorerPatcher · GitHub[^] Works wonderfully well and at least the taskbar now looks the same as it always did. The start menu, unfortunately, is still crap though.

Not possible, it seems you simply can't setup Windows without internet. Maybe if I'd be somewhere in the middle of nowhere and Windows couldn't even find a WiFi... :~ I used den2k88's solution, where you have to use some cmd line and after that it restarts and you can skip connecting to internet.
