The whole of Florida USA was woken up just after 4:00 AM this morning by the loud noise of an amber alert on their phones. It turns out the alert was "just a test"! A test that time of the morning!? They must either be very stupid or crazy!

Just switch off emergency alerts on your phone. Although I am considering being present in Tesco on Sunday when everyone else's phone goes off and then proceed to run around babbling "We're all going to die!" Goodness knows what is going to happen on the roads when a bunch of drivers reach for their phones to switch off the loud alarm.

Typical government behavior. And there probably won't even be an apology, let alone anyone getting disciplined or fired.

Like all of us here got disciplined or fired for every mistake in our code (that undoubtedly made it to production)? Luckily, the world doesn't work like that.

Got your attention though, didn't it? In that sense it proved something useful.😉

I power my phone off during sleeping hours. Making oneself accessible to notifications 24/7 is nonsensical.

I guess that when Putin cracks and presses the button, you'll never get the warning, and never know why it all ended.😉

I like the prime time ones. If we are sitting in the den at 9pm watching TV and a gray Toyota drives through - it does not matter what the license plate is on it - I'm calling the cops. I don't need an alert for that.

Yeah, I've never made a mistake in system management, ;) . The company is losing their contract as a result since Ron (Mr. Perfect   ) DeSantis has so ordained it. I'm not saying it wasn't a really dumb error, but let he who hath not sinned cast the first stone?

Oh dear. It's bad enough when a weather alert for an area of the state hundreds of miles away comes through. I have nearly all alerts turned off on my phone. I can look out the window for myself. When we were in L.A. last week someone "thought she smelled smoke" and pulled the hotel fire alarm at 04:00 one morning.

Around here, people complain if the weather forecast isn't on target three days ahead. The forecast reaches eight days ahead, but we all know that the further ahead, the less reliable. Usually, we get the wind, rain and cold in the (approximate) order forecast, but it often is delayed or comes earlier than suggested in the long-time forecasts. The view from my window isn't great, but I don't know of anyone with a view where they can see the weather three days ahead, and certainly not eight days.

THe UK government plan to force this on us soon. It's nice to know they have nothing important to work on.

reminds me of the emergency drills they had in the USSR. probably they had some in the USA, too. just the US was not obsessed with the drills like the USSR. in the past 3 years the west has got a lot traits of the Warsaw Pact countries. sadly... Three story building was evacuated one time until fire department showed up to clear it because someone failed to follow the instructions on the microwave popcorn that says to watch it.

we have tornados. Not sure which is worse. Hurricane much bigger and spawns tornados. But midwest tornados are huge and come out of nowhere.
