It's not about the money...

After less than a week on W11 I got so frustrated with the taskbar, that I actually paid for a software to resolve the issue... It is not about the money ($5), but the realization that MS actually doesn't give a shit about end user...

I'm using ExplorerPatcher and 7 Taskbar Tweaker. I think MS is going to bring back the 'don't combine' feature soon.

No text and always grouped... So to select one of the N opened Visual Studio instances is PITA...

Isn't is also the case that when the mouse is hovered over the group icon in the Taskbar, it shows all the opened instances as thumbnails/tooltips, from which the desired one can be selected? Doesn't seem like a PITA.

I agree. I'm trying to set up my new laptop - windows 11 professional. Why MS would mess with something so fundamental as the task bar. This is like a car maker putting the steering wheel on the floor and the brake pedals on the dash. It just makes no sense unless they are diabolically evil. Wait, I may have just hit on something... For the record, what did you buy?

It is PITA... You have to wait for the popup, then identify the correct instance from the thumbernail... You also misding identifications lke 'Running' or 'Debug'... A big time PITA

It called StartAllBack... Also using O&O ShutUp to block unwanted network traffic

Agreed! If you find something useful, $5 is a measly amount, especially considering that MS is now giving away a lot of development tools many of us use. I'll stay away from W11 as long as I can. I absolutely loved Win7 and have learned to tolerate coexist with Win10. I've setup a couple of laptops with W11 and wasn't impressed...just more dumbing down, tablet oriented, shiny stuff. X| I'll be getting a new laptop soon, and will either learn to live with it, or also spend a little to make it tolerable! :)

Surely you realized this decades ago. They stopped being "geeks with cool tools" a long time ago. Now they're just a [insert insensitive non-PC adjective here] business like any other.

i am afraid i do not yet understand . how should it behave ? when i hover over VS icon in taskbar i see a small preview with the name of the project in surprisingly large letters at top allowing me to easily identify . btw this is on Windows 10 . is it different on your system ?

Yes; you lose the ability NOT to group items, and also lose the caption in Windows 11. This is the issue - it used to work well in Win10, then they broke it. One of several reasons I've opted NOT to "upgrade" to Win11.

Running latest version W11 not running any other taskbar software Personalization Taskbar settings: everything off except hidden icon menu windows update status All icons in taskbar are where i have placed them, no grouping Labels show when hovering over icon. I do not see your problem.

First problem is the icons - I want labels Second - how many instances of VS for instance you have?
