What's worse than pop-ups?

I'm particularly fond of those pop-ups that are precisely positioned such that their caption is hidden off the top of the screen, and they have put their own caption/min/max buttons up there to make it look like you click the button and the window goes away. Wrong! It fooled me once, but I learn quickly.

I always say no. If your security settings are set right I can't see how this would happen. I use Mozilla at home... I use IE for those (rare) occasions that I need it. Usually for Flash which I will NEVER install in Mozilla. I HATE flash, it has got to be the most abused net technology since the first animated gif graced a web page. However, now and then there is something that it's good for. It was obnoxious Flash ads (with sound! that would scream across the page you're trying to read! sheesh!) as much as popups that made me switch to Mozilla for good.

Programs being sneakily installed on your computer. Anybody know of a way to stop this? I really don't have a use for those 'pay-for-porn' programs.
