Moving the earth

If we get too close then we boil, if we move too far away then we freeze. Personally, I think we are in the right place, with the perfect climate, for life. Can't beat perfection. Then again in a few billion years we just might adapt to these extreme situations. That is if we manage to survive given that we are hell bent on destoying the Earth and everything on it!

Not sure since I'm not a rocket scientist :-) If we would move the earth closer to the sun the year would probably get a little bit shorter wouldn't it? It would actually be quite convenient to move the earth closer enough to the sun to make the year exactly 360 days long. Then each month would be exactly 30 days and a lot of calculations would become easier :-D

I had a similar idea once, but it was about stopping the earth rotating. The aim was to freese the day-weather on 15-aug 19:00, which is a perfect time for going out for coffee with your buddies  Of course this benefits only the cities near gmt+2 (athens, helsinki, berlin) ;P - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Memory leaks is the price we pay \0 01234567890123456789012345678901234

I've been taking advantage of this freak climate spell and spending long periods of time at the Pub at lunch recently:) So I guess I can claim temporary insanity!

Actually, I read once that if we could get all the people in the world to jump at exactly the same time then the earth would actually move. They would probably have to be located on the same side of earth though.

I read once that if you burped, farted and sneezed at the same time your heart would explode..... And the other one about masturbation causing hairy palms & baldness........ I tested these theories as a youth, and neither of them are true for me !!! However I sometimes wonder about another liberal thesis, that reality is independent of the observer (ie, that's why white people can't teach black history - no lie, recent US school fired whitey teacher because blacks complained), so perhaps you should test these theories yourself !!!!!!!!!! :):):)

BadJerry wrote: cannot believe you actually think that England has the perfect climate Compared to a nice spring afternoon on Venus ( 550 F and cloudy with a faint sulfuric smell ) or a nice summer afternoon on Mars ( -22 and windy )it probably ain't bad. Heck it was 103 in Dallas yesterday and expected to be 100 or better for the rest of the week and we are considering this to be a mild but dry summer. Its all relative I guess. I believe the jump itself was not the main reason why the earth would move but rather when everybody *land* on earth after the jump. I.e. all this people would act like a giant "hammer" that would tap the earth slightly away/closer from/to the sun.

I don't think it's anything to worry about - they'll have built the DeathStar by then... Phil

What side of the earth would that be? The side facing the sun or the other? I imagine it would be easier to put more distance between the earth and the sun than the inverse. Right or wrong? -- Berlin rules.
So you wouldn't have to work against the sun's gravity, I suspect it would be easier to jump on the side opposite the sun.

Yes, but the speed of the earth around the sun? What's strongest? Sun gravity or the centripetal force due to the earths orbit? :~ -- Berlin rules.
