I have to admit, the fantastic weather seem to have lured me into a false sense of security and its only gonna get worse over this week. I've been taking advantage of this freak climate spell and spending long periods of time at the Pub at lunch recently:) So I guess I can claim temporary insanity!

Actually, I read once that if we could get all the people in the world to jump at exactly the same time then the earth would actually move. They would probably have to be located on the same side of earth though.

Somehow my first thought when I read the subject line was, "man, it's gonna take forever to pack everything". :~

I read once that if you burped, farted and sneezed at the same time your heart would explode..... And the other one about masturbation causing hairy palms & baldness........ I tested these theories as a youth, and neither of them are true for me !!! However I sometimes wonder about another liberal thesis, that reality is independent of the observer (ie, that's why white people can't teach black history - no lie, recent US school fired whitey teacher because blacks complained), so perhaps you should test these theories yourself !!!!!!!!!! :):):)

Heck it was 103 in Dallas yesterday and expected to be 100 or better for the rest of the week and we are considering this to be a mild but dry summer. Its all relative I guess. I believe the jump itself was not the main reason why the earth would move but rather when everybody *land* on earth after the jump. I.e. all this people would act like a giant "hammer" that would tap the earth slightly away/closer from/to the sun.

What side of the earth would that be? The side facing the sun or the other? I imagine it would be easier to put more distance between the earth and the sun than the inverse. Right or wrong? -- Berlin rules.

So you wouldn't have to work against the sun's gravity, I suspect it would be easier to jump on the side opposite the sun.

Yes, but the speed of the earth around the sun? What's strongest? Sun gravity or the centripetal force due to the earths orbit? :~ -- Berlin rules.
