Currently, I'm using two and it's soooo nice! You can keep MSDN Library opened in the second and VS.NET in the first. You can also keep all your IM programs (as for me, I have Sonork and ICQ) in the second and Winamp and desktop icons etc. Rickard Andersson Here is my card, contact me later! I'm using 3 at the moment, one for VS, one for the class view/solutionview/properties windows and the other for ie/msdn and any other apps i happen to be running at the time. 2 of the monitors are running 1280x1024 and one in 1024x786 because i couldn't find a decent 3rd graphics card when i upgraded this PC a few weeks back. The problem with big monitors is that you end up having to sit a good distance from them. Otherwise you end up having to rotate your head or chair to see them. So instead I think a wide monitor would just fill up my field of vision better. Regardz Colin J Davies

One upon a time, I used a Hercules MGA for the debugger, and a SVGA for the debugged app. It was SOOOO nice!!! As for desk space, anyone into sponsoring me a good TFT? [edit] btw - how do you set it up nowadays? I assume you need a second graphics card - but this would have to be a PCI one, or are there boards with two AGP slots? Or are you using the onboard and an external?[/edit]

Everyone here have two monitors. It's addictive. Even drag & drop operations become easier. We soon will be upgrading the machines and probably we’ll have three (hey, why not four) monitors. I’ll be taking so much radiation that, instead of having my shadow projected on the wall, you’ll see a picture of my bones projected. Currently using a dual head nVidia card. I ordered a Matrox Parhelia[^] card, which has three heads. The dual card that I'm using now is an AGP card, I tried installing a PCI video card, thinking that maybe with Win XP I could get it to work. Though the card installed with all the drivers, the system would not allow me to use both AGP and PCI video. I have a buyer for the dual head card, so that plus some deep digging for cash gets me the matrox card. Of course, now I'm waiting for someone to tell me that the two cards could have worked, but then I wouldn't have an excuse to buy a new card. So don't ruin my sorrow. :) You can get a triple Matrox Pahrelia at NewEgg.com[^]

To setup it is easy, WinXP has a slightly better support for dual monitors than Win2k, but not a big deal. The easiest way is: you use an AGP card and as many PCI cards you want (or can). Then, on your BIOS, you set your AGP as the primary card (most games will work on your primary card, and probably you'll get better performance on your AGP card). Boot XP, install the drivers for both cards. On the property page where you set your resolution you'll now have two monitors, and you can move them to match your physical setup (left/right/up/down) and enable/disable them. Not all cards support it, but NVidia cards never had a problem here; we normally use a TNT2 PCI + a GeForce4 AGP. You can do it on anything you choose - from .bat to .net - A customer

I'm using either two monitors and a TV or three monitors. I use the 2+tv combo when I code, where I have VS on one monitor and help, ICQ and IRC on the other. I might play some nice movie or music video on the TV. If I have all three monitors connected, I do usually have VS on center, help on right and Opera on left. When I get bored I play some Q3 or JK3 in Surround on all three monitors. As you might suspect, I have a Matrox Parhelia. I have 1x19" and 2x17" monitors.

I bought mine from JME Data[^] But that was in July 2002, I did only select them because they were the first ones to have it in stock. If I were to order one today, I would use Komplett[^] or Dustin AB[^]. Dustin has IMO better support and way better shipping. Don't be afraid to contact me about any issues with the card. I've used it for a while now so I'm quite familiar with it.

One here at work, but two at home. Never going back, in fact I may try and see if I can get a third sometime soon. One thing I haven't figured out if it's possible to do yet is to have VS.NET span both monitors? I'd like to have a source file open on each display. Do you know if that can be done?

No. :( It would be handy to have a source file open on each display. Rickard Andersson Here is my card, contact me later! UIN: 50302279 Sonork: 37318 Interests: C++, ADO, SQL, Winsock, 0s and 1s
