Domain Name advice needed

1. Don't advertise on a public board which domains you are thinking about getting. I have already registered them all and will now sell them to you for $5000 a pop. ;) 2. What is the site about? Just a personal space for adhoc stuff? Then I think ThomasFreudenberg.com is best. Is your girlfriend paying for the hosting? Surely she won't be put out by having ThomasFreudenberg.com/Girlfriend42/mystuff.html ? 3. Being clever with domain names rarely pays off. 4. Don't stress so much. Use ThomasFreudenberg.com, it will always remain relevant. IpsoFactoCodoNetorComWoeIsMe.com you may get sick of when you are 40 years old.

My blog, code snippets, maybe some self-written applications (as soon as I have the time :sigh:). Maybe a photo gallery. Anonymous wrote: Is your girlfriend paying for the hosting? Surely she won't be put out by having ThomasFreudenberg.com/Girlfriend42/mystuff.html ? ROTFL. I too think she wouldn't like it  Anonymous wrote: Being clever with domain names rarely pays off. You're right in this again. I will keep the name for the rest of my life (assumably), and it's quite unlikely that my name will change... Thanks for your advice. Regards Thomas

Hi all, I need your advice. I'm running a web server at home, but am going to move it to a hosting service. First because I've only 128kbit/s upstream, and secondly I'd like to have a decent domain name instead of this thoemmi.dyndns.org[^]. I've already subscribed at WebHost4Life[^] some days ago. However, I still don't know which domain name to choose. My first idea was to use my nickname (which is Thoemmi), but I think that it may be difficult to pronounce for non-German. My second thought was to just use my full name (i.e. www.ThomasFreudenberg.com), but my girl-friend would like to put some stuff on the server too, and we're not married ;) So I'm still looking for a nice name. What do you think of www.CodePotato.com, since I'm spending most of my spare-time programming? Or www.IpsoCodo.net? Or www.BlueCloud.com? However, I even don't know whether to use .com or .net. You see, I'm really confused. Any advice is welcome. :sigh: Regards Thomas

Try to make the name as short as possible. Joe Public generally think all names are .com or something local. Stuff like .net and .org confuse a lot of people. The longer a name is the more likely spelling mistakes will be. :-) Regardz Colin J Davies

sighist | Agile Programming | doxygenso i've been working on getting a new domain name, turtleworks.com. check it out with whois, it's available. take a few weeks to make sure i can use Turtle Works as a business name. finish that and on friday last week go to register turtleworks.com. domain name not available! someone registered that very morning, isn't that amazing timing! it turned out alright i registered turtlehand.com which better indicates the intent anyway. Some time ago there were rumors that registrars check their query logs, and "reserve" them for domain trade.
"Vierteile den, der sie Hure schimpft mit einem türkischen Säbel."
sighist | Agile Programming | doxygenthat may be true, and shrewd, but not the case this time. a school in vermont obtained the domain. i contacted them directly to see what they were up to and received a reply. Josef Wainz Software Developer
