I'm having problems with blogger, turning Umlauts (äöüßÄÖÜ for you germanically challanged) into crap, even though I've set everything to UTF-8 Unicode (which, IMO, should work fairly fine). Any suggestions? i.e. how to make blogger keep those wonderful letters, or another blog service that does.

I'm not sure mate, I've a friend at work who's from Bayern, he umlauts like there's no tomorrow, but the best I can do is Buecher for books, Baeumer for trees, etc. Not ideal. Perhaps alt+numeric key pad: like alt+152=Ö, alt+154 = Ü, alt+142=Ä, alt+132= ä,alt+137=ë, etc. Hope that helps. Ego sum insanus, sed sum felix. Felix sanus est, ergo insanus tam insanus non est!

ah - ok, misunderstanding ;) I have no problem typing Umlauts, and they look perfect while writing, but when I submit they change to whacko double-bytes.

Not really, just change the keyboard layout to US-International. It changes certain keys " ' ^ ~ ` into so-called dead keys meaning you have to press "e to get ë etc. The only annoying this is that if you need a ", you must press the dead key followed by a space. But one gets used to that very quickly.
