Paul Watson wrote: It was part of the stereotype we are highlighting, Mike. Aaaahhhh! Which stereotype? The Southern Americans are all inbred, Spam sucking, trailer trash alien abductees stereotype? or The "Gee, I saw it on American TV & Michael Moore movies so it must be true!!" arrogant condescending non-American stereotype? ;) All I've ever wanted was an honest week's pay for an honest day's work.

EU embarrassed as poll labels Israel world's biggest threat Bit odd that though. How is Israel a threat to the world? Any Europeans care to comment? p.s. For those of you who are about to once again inform us that you don't give a rats arse about Europe, sod off. We already know. Give it up already. regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass South Africa Anna-Jayne Metcalfe wrote: "Cynicism has it's place in life - but it should be kept well away from your inner self." Perhaps because Israel contributes to instability in the region ? The tigress is here :-D

I wasn't giving reasons for living there, just pointing out that if you consider the south or the southwest ignorant you're making a mistake - but the real reason for the reply is to shed additional light. To start, I'll assume you're not from the south, nor have you lived there. I relocated to Dallas Texas from Pittsburgh PA in '61. My father was transferred and the family relocated. I was 16 at the time and found it to be alien, I lived in what was then a rural community about 16 miles out of downtiwn Dallas. Across the street from our suburb was a cotton field. In the middle of the cotton field was a sharecroppers shack. I could see light between the boards of the shack and on cold winter nights I am certain those folks were cold. I was absolutely amazed when a Black stepped off of the curb so I, a 16 year old, could pass by unimpeded. I was also amazed when I went to the State Fair of Texas and saw 3 signs fo the restrooms: men, woman, and colored. The water fountains were labelled: white and colored, if my memory serves me right. There was also a billboard at the city line for Commerce Texas, if not Commerce it was another relatively small town well outside of Dallas, that said, "nigger don't let the sun set on your head". The last one that did, was hung. Needless to say that I saw tremendous change before I left Dallas for Indianapolis in '89. Dallas today has a black mayor, or did the last time I checked. Since my relocation to Dallas in '61, I have travelled (heavy business travel) and lived in other parts of the country: midwest, southwest, deep south, Denver, New England, New York. Lived in Mass. for better than 3 years, 77 - 81. Of all the different parts of the country, the southwest and deep south are by far the most desirable: Lower taxes; Friendlier people; Healthier economy (any connection to lower taxes?); Far better looking women. It is a pity that the vocal minority are cast as the majority when seen from the outside. The same happens for America with gung ho Texans and ingorant Southerners being represented as the majority of America. regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass South Africa Anna-Jayne Metcalfe wrote: "Cynicism has it's place in life - but it should be kept well away from your inner self." Paul Watson wrote: gung ho Texans and ingorant Southerners As both a Texan and a Southerner I resent that. It is amusing that one from a country who is in full retreat from the world stage would buy into the silly demagogery put forth by the Democratic Party anyway. The idea that the US is represented by the East and West coast is, to me , much funnier. Two for two I have to agree with you. What's the world coming to????? I did a stint in Dallas from 79 to 85. While they could call us Yankee and make it sound like a four letter word, it was the "Yankee" influx that represented "progress". At any given instant there are considerably more assholes than mouths in the universe.

Just as long as you leave when your work is done. The problem is that so many move to Dallas and end up staying here. Of course we tend to segregate those in certain areas. I have lived in Texas since 1968 and am still considered somewhat outside the pale by many. I am the only non native Texan in our Home Owners Association ( about 150 members ) so my little part of Dallas is still "Old" Dallas. :) Richard "The man that hath not music in himself and is not moved with concord of sweet sounds is fit for treasons, stratagems and spoils; Let no man trust him." Richard, I and I do not think Paul ment any offence. Yes I have heard may good things about Chuck (espcially his work with teen groups) and am sure he is a good man. Paul's only comment was what info the world is given is sources like tv. I was just pointing out the two he choose actually were born elsewhere. Lets be honest. That is our image! Trust me here, My brother married a lady from overseas who already had children. His perception on what his new cousins were going to be like was interesting. :rose: "For as long as I can remember, I have had memories. Colin Mochrie."
