Anyone know of a good (as in windows-style) text editor for UNIX (Solaris)? (The first one to mention vi shall invoke the wrath of :bob: ) ~Nitron.

I don't know if they were ported to Solaris, but on Linux, you have: Emacs (I hate it, but even some MS people love it). JED/JOE MC (Midinight Commander, comes with an integrated simple editor) TextPad Due to technical difficulties my previous signature, "I see dumb people" will be off until further notice. Too many people were thinking I was talking about them... :sigh:

And don't forget vim/gvim (hey - it's not "vi"! :)). I use it a lot for quick samples, tests, quick code hacks, and simple text editing (having "replaced" notepad with it).

emacs is a pain to install (as the default for various applications) and get used to. But you'll love it once you get used to it. "To his dog, every man is Napoleon"

Sorry, you weren't the first one... You missed out ;P Jörgen Sigvardsson wrote: Those who argue that emacs sucks doesn't know and/or appreciate Lisp I would suggest that anyone with a Lisp go see a speech therapist, after a few years you'll forget you ever even had one. ~Nitron.

who in their right mind would ever think to type :pq rs A+ | grep -pLR u8 %s vQry i qr pxub y just to enter a tab! or... :z dQ rui | awk -yIb -1 instead of hitting [backspace]! And obviously when I hit [backspace], I really want to type [^h. May be logical for some, but not I. ~Nitron.
