Anybody of hear of these guys: http://www.sonicfusion.com/home.php[^]? Let's just say a "friend" of mine was contacted by them. Apparently my "friend" works on the VCF[^]. It seems the email to my "friend" included the phrase: "the potential synergies between the work you’ve done and their upcoming product" Now I can't speak for others, but whenever I hear/see the phrase "potential synergies" and "upcoming product" my bullshit detector begins to go into overdrive. I notice that they have a screenshots section, but you can only see them by becoming a registered developer. You can only become a registered developer by emailing an addr - but with no explanation or form to fill out! Here's the management section: http://www.sonicfusion.com/management.php[^] My "friend" is rather suspicious, and more than a little skeptical. Is he being too harsh? ¡El diablo está en mis pantalones! ¡Mire, mire! Real Mentats use only 100% pure, unfooled around with Sapho Juice(tm)! SELECT * FROM User WHERE Clue > 0 0 rows returned

Well, the web site looks good and the two guys' pictures on the management section looks pretty geeky, so it might be a decent software company! :-D

I agree the website is nice - it just seems very much like vaporware - and the fact that stuff like screenshots are in a developer area that you can't get access to unless you register, seemed a little weird. ¡El diablo está en mis pantalones! ¡Mire, mire! Hum... maybe they automatically embed pr0n ads into unused screen estate? (say, the huge white area around the "Text" box when posting this) This would be "next generation", since the total intrusion of advertisement is the next best thing. It wuld be a software solution, since you can't call that "a program" anymore. "adress the demand" - yes, pr0n pr0n pr0n. "cutting edge" - even bizarre stuff is included - yeah! Cross-platform: sure, it doesn't matter if it's served from a Unix or a CP/M server. Surely, it fits the definition of "digital media" ("Buy the sound package for only $45!") It would definitely be a new computing experience that could... um, mepower you. Christopher Duncan wrote: that truly provides the power to innovate OK, ok, here it all falls apart :(

I have no idea. They are certainly welcome to use it, the VCF is BSD licensed, all I ask for is for people to give credit where credit is due. But their approach is so, what's the word..., oblique? that it's hard to take them very seriously as anything other than dot-bomb wanks. Keep in mind that I worked at 2 different NYC startups that were full of this same kind dip-shit vaporware methodology. ¡El diablo está en mis pantalones! ¡Mire, mire! A quote from this link[^]: Brendan Iribe and Mike Antonov, both 24, are also betting that their company -- which has created the framework to add pop-up menu boxes similar to Windows to anything from video games and television consoles to camcorders and cameras -- will be able attract attention from the major players who are part of the industry rush to connect devices with television at the center. With GFC, developers will be able to create slick-looking menu boxes with all the functions that most people have on their personal computers, but with the special effects and high-end graphics to make the boxes look and feel as though they belong in a game, in a camera or on television, Iribe said. Sounds interesting, but the proof is in the pudding.
