I've been away for a while so things may have changed around here at CP-land. I seem to remember that competition prizes were usually awarded quickly. I do not remember it taking up to 6 weeks or longer to annouce winners. What's up with this? http://www.codeproject.com/script/competitions/monthly/[^] "No winner announced for May."

Well, I don't know if you can qualify this as fast or as slow, but I still didn't receive my prizes from the November, 2002 contest... Yes, even I am blogging now!

This was the last contact I had from Chris. After this, nothing.

              Hi Daniel,

I spent a bit of time going and back and forth and the company's that
originally promised the prizes had indicated they had sent the email but have
since pulled out of sponsoring the competition. I've all but given up trying to
get anything out of them so if you send me your T-shirt size and address I'll
              send you a consolation prize.

              cheers,

IMHO the competition stuff is a joke, and no one really cares. It have NO visibility, and I know several people that said it was impossible to find stuff about the competitions, and how they work. Also, I offered some software I have made, to Chris, that he could use as prizes in the competitions, but he turned the offer down with a "We only want developer products as prizes". Huh! If I won I would love any software that might be usefull, not only developer products... As it is now, I suggest they shut down the competition stuff, and turn it back on sometime when they have time/resources to fully support it! And now I'll watch the flames when people see this post ;) - Anders Money talks, but all mine ever says is "Goodbye!" ShotKeeper, my Photo Album / Organizer Application[^]

I think this thread underscores why Chris doesn't want any donations. People start to feel they own the site and thus have a right to tell Chris how to run the site. If I offered Chris something as a prize and he didn't take it, I wouldn't feel hurt or miffed. It is his business what he uses for prizes. We have every right offer, but what he does with our offers should mean anything. It isn't as if he was the least bit nasty about it. Tim Smith I'm going to patent thought. I have yet to see any prior art.

I thought the same thing, and I was supposed to receive a Dundas.NET Chart component, which seemed a very good tool. My intention was to make a nice tool with it and publish an article right away, which would obviously benefit them. Not to mention that I'm still waiting for the T-shirt to arrive... :( If you check the link on the message, you'll see two other "prize winners" that also didn't receive their prizes... Welcome back, Toasty! While the site is still one of the best, it's dealing with some rather significant problems as of late. Hopefully, things will be ironed out soon. Cheers, Tom Archer "Use what talents you possess. Thanks Tom. As an aside to this thread--I look forward to sinking my teeth into your book Visual C++.Net soon. Best, Jerry

Ouch. I hadn't intended to open a big ole "Can 'o Worms" with my question.

If you scroll down the page at http://www.codeproject.com/script/competitions/monthly/winners.asp, you'll see that I "received" a Dundas Chart for .NET - Professional Edition ($699), and a "ScriptWorx - Web based HTML editor - SoftLite"($399). :sigh: Then, everything was changed to a T-shirt as a consolation prize, and I'm still waiting for it to arrive. For obvious reasons I didn't follow up sending Chris a ton of "where's my T-shirt" e-mails... Yes, even I am blogging now!
