I think this thread underscores why Chris doesn't want any donations. People start to feel they own the site and thus have a right to tell Chris how to run the site. If I offered Chris something as a prize and he didn't take it, I wouldn't feel hurt or miffed. It is his business what he uses for prizes. We have every right offer, but what he does with our offers should mean anything. It isn't as if he was the least bit nasty about it. Tim Smith I'm going to patent thought. I have yet to see any prior art.

I've all but given up trying to get anything out of them so if you send me your T-shirt size and address I'll send you a consolation prize. Now that seriously blows. If a site offers a prize and it can't deliver, it should at least give you something of equal (or greater) value. Jeez, the site's owned by Dundas. IMHO the competition stuff is a joke, and no one really cares. It have NO visibility, and I know several people that said it was impossible to find stuff about the competitions, and how they work. Also, I offered some software I have made, to Chris, that he could use as prizes in the competitions, but he turned the offer down with a "We only want developer products as prizes". Huh! If I won I would love any software that might be usefull, not only developer products... As it is now, I suggest they shut down the competition stuff, and turn it back on sometime when they have time/resources to fully support it! We wanted our own site, and we wanted to do it different from CP. We have a more moderated environment, where articles are reviewed before they are posted and stuff like that. And then what happens when that volunteer decides they are owed money or part ownership of what we have? Or if a volunteer suddenly runs out of time because of home or work life? Or they break something and don't want to hang around to fix it? Or they do worse? The bad 0.01% of the population has really made me once bitten, twice shy. This sucks. The cleanest way for this to work is if we have dedicated people who are under an employment agreement and can work to a set deadline. Anything else can turn good friends into angry and bitter enemies. You spent enough time with CodeGuru to understand how hard this can be, and you have also been in the programming business to understand how hard it is to try and have goals and timelines that rely on others who are not under the same set of pressures. I would LOVE, more than anything, to use the combined talent of our community to build something amazing, but it just opens us up to too many issues and can be, indrectly, very, very expensive. cheers, Chris Maunder

Sorry for the late response to this.... Was a Dundas Chart the prize you won, or was it a replacement prize? In Chris's response posted above it seems that it was a replacement prize.
