A little more military humor: What it means to “secure a building” depends on which branch of the military you serve with. If you tell an Army officer to secure a building, he'll lead a heavily-armed platoon into it, set up a perimeter, and arrest and interrogate its inhabitants. If you tell a Marine officer to secure a building, he'll lead in a squad at night, surround the building and call an air strike. If you tell a Naval officer to secure a building, he'll turn off the coffeepot and lock the door. If you tell an Air Force officer to secure a building, he'll go to Contracting and request a lease with an option to buy. ;)

I'm told that during the Watts riots in Los Angeles many years ago, the army was called in to help support the police (despite posse comitatus rules to the contrary). A miscommunication occurred when a police officer asked an army troop to "cover him" and the army guy started laying down cover fire.
