Well after 7 years of loyal service my home 17” monitor bit the dust. I have always used a 17”, but since I have to buy a new monitor I am going to go up in sizes. Currently I run my resolution at 1152x824. Well I am deciding between a 19” and a 21”. It’s about a $200 difference, but I really like my brothers 21”… it’s really nice. Both of the monitors I am looking at have the same max resolution, just one has more screen space. So my question to everyone is what monitor size you are currently using, and everyone’s experience/thoughts on the (tv – like) 21” monitors :) Thanks! ------ I am the sole owner of all comments/statements made by myself, and they do not represent those of my company in any way. Furthermore, it’s a shame it has come to the point where we have to make statements like this. Cheers! ====================== Matthew R. Miller www.computersmarts.net[^]

I had almsot the same thing happen a few months ago. I went for the Dell UltraSharp 20.1 2001FP LCD. Works great, perfect for coding, and even games like Unreal Tournment 2004 run perfect on it. Dell is currently having a sale on it. Normal price is $899 but it's on sale for $674 w/ free shipping right now. Check out www.slickdeals.net for more info on the price and discount code. Good luck finding a replacement :)

Nothing beats a dual monitor setup. Really. I really prefer 2 x 17" than a single 21". So, my recommendation is: buy another 17" and the 19". Use two video boards (one AGP, one PCI) or a dualhead board. I use NVidia boards for dual monitors and they work great. Yes, even I am blogging now!

well... if you want the best solution... go for three monitors... just think... when using visual studio, have the code displayed on monitor one, the actual program on monitor two, and the watch/locals/ output on monitor three... all 17" lcd monitors 1280x1024.... yep, hey, why not stop there, monitor #4 displaying msdn or whatever....

Pop for two 19"! Dual monitors are the only way to go for a programmer. Have the code on one side while the app is running on the other. Also, with the technology of today, two monitors are handled as if they where one large monitor. Mouse moves from screen to screen and you can even have windows dragged to part on one and part on the other. Several years ago I worked somewhere where they had 2 24" inch and 2 21" inch monitors all plugged into 1 PC. Unfortunately this was just for a trial basis and lasted about a week.:( Man, could you loose your mouse on that lot!

If I had the money I'd go for one of these: http://www.go-l.com/monitors/index.htm ... Coding on one of those would be cool... although I'd have no space left on my desk :(( Regards, Brian Dela :-) http://www.briandela.com IE 6 required.

Mi configuration: 2 x 21''. I could never go back to a smaller size and whenever I have to use a computer with a single display I keep trying to move windows through the borders of the display. :) As for the size, this is a perfect case of the old "the bigger the better". :) Regards Francisco Viella Silver at last!!

I have the 21 set further back on the desk , so it's like moving stuff into the background. :-) Regardz Colin J Davies Attention: It's finally arrived, The worlds first DSP.

But my Visual Studio already uses both my monitors (Source code on one and all the other tabs, boxes, help, properties etc on the other), I already nead a third to run the applicatation I am developing. Are you suggesting I need five monitors?:~

My desktop machine currently uses a five year old 19in monitor. I do have a 21inch monitor which is still sat in its box, because a) It won't fit on my desk b) I can't get the thing up the stairs into my office. :-D Michael CP Blog [^]

get two 21' monitors and run them side by side both in 2048x1534 resolution (4096 pixels wide yay!) like me. It's the only way to go. :)

Unless you absolutely need perfect colors get a LCD. Much easier on the eyes. Look at viewable area, not size. Nothing has changed here in years, marketing still likes to put the biggest number on front in most cases. Everyone once in a while you will see a 18 inch monitor with more viewable area than a different 19 inch. (not offten because 18 inch monitors are rare) I agree with the dual monitor recomendtation. It makes a big difference. Adding more is better, but not by as much as adding a second.

Yep. Nothing like dual monitor setup! I have a 17" and a 15" for my toolbox, properties, solution explorer windows, plus my msn messenger. The 15" is enough for that, although I wish I had 2 17" someitmes.

There are few things that can make me giggle for 5 minutes, but that was one of 'em. :)
