Monitor Size Dilemma
-
Well after 7 years of loyal service my home 17” monitor bit the dust. I have always used a 17”, but since I have to buy a new monitor I am going to go up in sizes. Currently I run my resolution at 1152x824. Well I am deciding between a 19” and a 21”. It’s about a $200 difference, but I really like my brothers 21”… it’s really nice. Both of the monitors I am looking at have the same max resolution, just one has more screen space. So my question to everyone is what monitor size you are currently using, and everyone’s experience/thoughts on the (tv – like) 21” monitors :) Thanks! ------ I am the sole owner of all comments/statements made by myself, and they do not represent those of my company in any way. Furthermore, it’s a shame it has come to the point where we have to make statements like this. Cheers! ====================== Matthew R. Miller www.computersmarts.net[^]
Mi configuration: 2 x 21''. I could never go back to a smaller size and whenever I have to use a computer with a single display I keep trying to move windows through the borders of the display. :) As for the size, this is a perfect case of the old "the bigger the better". :) Regards Francisco Viella Silver at last!!

well... if you want the best solution... go for three monitors... just think... when using visual studio, have the code displayed on monitor one, the actual program on monitor two, and the watch/locals/ output on monitor three... all 17" lcd monitors 1280x1024.... yep, hey, why not stop there, monitor #4 displaying msdn or whatever....

I have the 21 set further back on the desk , so it's like moving stuff into the background. :-) Regardz Colin J Davies Attention: It's finally arrived, The worlds first DSP.

Nothing beats a dual monitor setup. Really. I really prefer 2 x 17" than a single 21". So, my recommendation is: buy another 17" and the 19". Use two video boards (one AGP, one PCI) or a dualhead board. I use NVidia boards for dual monitors and they work great. Yes, even I am blogging now!

jrem wrote: go for three monitors That thought occured to me yesterday, that way I could have Visual Studio on one monitor, Dreamweaver on another then the third for browsing CodeProject :-D SuzyB If I had a better memory I would remember more.
But my Visual Studio already uses both my monitors (Source code on one and all the other tabs, boxes, help, properties etc on the other), I already nead a third to run the applicatation I am developing. Are you suggesting I need five monitors?:~

get two 21' monitors and run them side by side both in 2048x1534 resolution (4096 pixels wide yay!) like me. It's the only way to go. :)

Unless you absolutely need perfect colors get a LCD. Much easier on the eyes. Look at viewable area, not size. Nothing has changed here in years, marketing still likes to put the biggest number on front in most cases. Everyone once in a while you will see a 18 inch monitor with more viewable area than a different 19 inch. (not offten because 18 inch monitors are rare) I agree with the dual monitor recomendtation. It makes a big difference. Adding more is better, but not by as much as adding a second.

There are few things that can make me giggle for 5 minutes, but that was one of 'em. :)
