The wheel on my mouse just quit working
-
A couple days ago I was working with Visio and found my finger twitching around for the horizontal wheel! When it comes to Visio, I usually find myself twitching around for the uninstall button. :-D Tim Smith I'm going to patent thought. I have yet to see any prior art.
That rings very true in my space as well, but wherever I go, there is Visio. Aside from the fine looking (yet to try) CDiagramEditor here on CP, what other free/inexpensive CAD tools are available? We mustn't forget that Visio is a diagramming tool, not really a design tool. Sometimes Visio should also remember that. Learn which South African airlines never to use on my blog.

hey, that gives me an idea... Mod my mouse to include boot/trunk space for a spare wheel.

I never realised how much I relied on it. :sigh:

On Sunday night, while I was working late on a high priority task, I opened my mouse to clean the little pressure wheel inside (the one without sensors). While attempting to hack the dirt of with a blade, suddenly the wheel shot of and I heard a rattle inside the mouse. I was screwed. I hadn't worked much on Friday because I knew that I would make good progress on Sunday. With slim hope I opened the mouse up and found a small axel inside. Imagine my delight when I found that the axel clipped back into the wheel bracket, and nothing was broken. This is a small miracle in todays disposable technology. The wheel on my mouse at work (a puny IntelliMouse Explorer v3 with the wussy little side buttons X|) needs a kick, or at least a relubrication, because it sticks and refuses to turn unless I apply serious force to it. And my IM Explorer v1 (with MANLY big side buttons) here at home is still humming right along... --Mike-- Personal stuff:: Ericahist | Homepage Shareware stuff:: 1ClickPicGrabber | RightClick-Encrypt CP stuff:: CP SearchBar v2.0.2 | C++ Forum FAQ ---- Wizard needs food, badly!

Huh, I always forget to use it. :-( So Doh to me. I wonder why they don't have a Horiz wheel as well?? Regardz Colin J Davies Attention: It's finally arrived, The worlds first DSP.
"I wonder why they don't have a Horiz wheel as well" I've always wondered why no one has yet put in a mini trackball instead of a wheel. Or have they?

With (at least) the Logitech mouse, if the window is scrollable, you can push the mouse wheel down and the cursor changes to d directional arrow cursor (ie the cursor has arrows in the direction(s) that you can scroll), then you just move the mouse to scroll up/down/left/right while continuing to hold the mouse wheel down. Steve

Indeed. After a rather vigorous game of Half Life once I realised I had bashed my wheel for the last time. The strange thing is that at first it was not usable anymore but over the months it has slowly been coming right. Now it works pretty well most of the time with the odd lock that sends documents scrolling like mad things. regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass South Africa Michael Dunn wrote: "except the sod who voted this a 1, NO SOUP FOR YOU" Crikey! ain't life grand?

I find that feature annoying, so it the first thing to go when installing the MS mouse drivers. Luckly there is a nice pretty diagram of the mouse to, in case anyone can't work out what each button is called. lol

Microsoft mice do that as well. I had a mouse the other day that closed the window when the mouse wheel was pushed - seems I use this feature all the time:mad: It is also very useful for mice with stuck mouse wheels - I have a couple of those!

Of course! There should be plenty of room in the back of my Intellimouse Optical.

I'm trying to decide if I should feel sorry for your in South Africa where appearently mice cost so much that it breaks the budget to replace them, or if you are just cheap enough that you won't replace it if there is any way to jury rig it into sort of working. In the first case let me know how to ship a mouse to you, in the latter case. Well I'm the same way, I wouldn't replace it either.

 A normal scroll mouse, even from MS, would be at most R150 but this one I rescued from an exiting boss and costs about R500. It is one of those expensive Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer optical jobs. Also it is one of the original versions and is so much better than the later designs. So even buying a new one isn't going to be great. Plus, the wheel works for the most part fine these days. I just give it some TLC every morning and it behaves. regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass South Africa Michael Dunn wrote: "except the sod who voted this a 1, NO SOUP FOR YOU" Crikey! ain't life grand?
