Just wnet to download.com and found out you have to register by filling out some huge form to download from there now! X| Guess it is time to move on to another download site. /Magnus
I have just visited the site in question, and downloaded Winzip 8.1 and started (and aborted) the download of a program called Logik something-or-other. Nowhere did it ask me for any information. Not once. But, ignoring that, and assuming that they are requiring this "registration"... Yeah, too damn right. How dare a company ask for a little marketting information to help pay the many-thousand dollar bills by helping with more effective advertising and tailored content in return for providing billions and billions of gigabytes of free downloads every year. Where do you think Code Project would be today if it wasn't for the member polls and demographic information collected from the members? (All of which require registration) It might still be here, but the higher paying sponsors won't shell out cash unless they have statistics to show to their big wigs for them to play with, so more cash would need to come out of the founders pockets. Not to mention the tailored content, which would not be possible otherwise. >> Guess it is time to move on to another download site. Guess it is time to open your eyes. There is no such thing as "free" anything. Someone, somewhere, has to foot the bill. ________________ David Wulff http://www.davidwulff.co.uk "I wrote a program in Visual C++ that allows me to send over 5,000 GIGABYTES of Video to every computer and TV Set connected to the Internet in "0" SECONDS (YES! Where do you think Code Project would be today if it wasn't for the member polls and demographic information collected from the members? (All of which require registration) Yes, but CP doesn't require you to register in order to read the articles. Registration gets you added value. Now, on Download, you get nothing without registration. That's a large difference. Guess it is time to open your eyes. There is no such thing as "free" anything. Someone, somewhere, has to foot the bill. My copy of emacs and I disagree. :-) Tim Lesher http://www.lesher.ws

I noticed that too but I managed to get around it. Just disable cookies when you visit download.com. I think they check to see how often you visit the site and ask you to "register" after a certain number of visits. Alternately, you could just delete the cookie after each visit - but that's a pain. Temporarily disabling cookies is really easy if you use something like GuideScope. nobody@aol.com could be a vaild email address, so watch out with that one. The best one to use is something like host@localhost or if they require a "period" in the address, use host@127.0.0.1. That way they get the email sent straight back to them! John Uhlenbrock wrote: 555 Nowhere St....etc It would be so so funny if that was a real address! The poor guy would be wondering when he signed up for forty two thousand AOL CD's and that porn site subscription. ________________ David Wulff http://www.davidwulff.co.uk "I wrote a program in Visual C++ that allows me to send over 5,000 GIGABYTES of Video to every computer and TV Set connected to the Internet in "0" SECONDS (YES! Sometimes you cannot use a dummy email address as they'll mail you a confirmation code. So first create a dummy hotmail address just for this purpose. Hotmail accounts get spammed 2 months after signing up anyway, so you wont be adding too much to it :-) Nish Sonork ID 100.9786 voidmain www.busterboy.org If you don't find me on CP, I'll be at Bob's HungOut
