I have just visited the site in question, and downloaded Winzip 8.1 and started (and aborted) the download of a program called Logik something-or-other. Nowhere did it ask me for any information. Not once. But, ignoring that, and assuming that they are requiring this "registration"... Yeah, too damn right. How dare a company ask for a little marketting information to help pay the many-thousand dollar bills by helping with more effective advertising and tailored content in return for providing billions and billions of gigabytes of free downloads every year. Where do you think Code Project would be today if it wasn't for the member polls and demographic information collected from the members? (All of which require registration) It might still be here, but the higher paying sponsors won't shell out cash unless they have statistics to show to their big wigs for them to play with, so more cash would need to come out of the founders pockets. (All of which require registration) Yes, but CP doesn't require you to register in order to read the articles. Registration gets you added value. Now, on Download, you get nothing without registration. That's a large difference. Guess it is time to open your eyes. There is no such thing as "free" anything. I noticed that too but I managed to get around it. Just disable cookies when you visit download.com. I think they check to see how often you visit the site and ask you to "register" after a certain number of visits. Alternately, you could just delete the cookie after each visit - but that's a pain. Temporarily disabling cookies is really easy if you use something like GuideScope. nobody@aol.com could be a vaild email address, so watch out with that one. The best one to use is something like host@localhost or if they require a "period" in the address, use host@127.0.0.1. Sometimes you cannot use a dummy email address as they'll mail you a confirmation code. So first create a dummy hotmail address just for this purpose.
