I was fairly young when Reagan left office... my first-hand memories of the time are few and vague. Based on what i've seen since then, i'd have a hard time calling him "Great". But love him or hate him, there's little denying that the world would have been a significantly different place today had there been no Reagan, and in the end, perhaps this is the most observable aspect of greatness.

Bill Clinton. :ducks: ;) Ronald Reagan is a good choice. Odd that #1 and #2 are both politicians, both Republicans too...I suppose since it was open to voting, and this seems like a show that would appeal mostly to common conservative folk, it should come as no surprise that Lincoln and Reagan are #2 & #1 respectively. And both Bush Sr. and Bush Jr. are in the top 25? I dunno about that... but I'll save any further comment for the soapbox. :-) *edit* ok, which 2 people voted 1 for this message? Why is everyone so politically sensitive these days? The Bill Clinton suggestion was a JOKE, for those over-sensitive conservatives that didn't get it. I awlays though Richard Feynman was a bit of a dude. Still not sure he was the greatest though. Reagan I think is pretty weak. He did a lot, but not that much.

Totally agree, President Reagan gave this country a re-birth. When in 1989, suddenly I heard the Evil Empire was broken, I know finally he made it. Your guys in north america just cannot imagine how it impacted the people's life in the east country. I am reading "American Life" by him, it is damn good. He is right in all fields, military (make USSR can NOT win; STAR WAR), ecnomics (lower tax to put burden off your shoulder) and spirit(conservative) to me. Thatcher(also my favourite politican) made it to number 10 in UK, winner was W. Churchill. It is interesting that politicans, certainly not most popular people on the world are put so high in this competition. Btw., I like those politicans who promote free market, low taxes, no regulations, individual liberty and so on. I'm confident that people know better how effectively use their money than the politicans. I still can't believe that some people had 70% taxes in USA before Reagan. Another interesting thing is that those politicans(who promote free trade, low taxes etc.) are now called conservatives, but they were called liberals in the time of American revolution.

Thank you Zhefu, I watched the video. It's a really impressive how Arnold talks about Austria. You know, I live in Slovakia, we has a border with Austria and we were occupied by Soviet Union in 1968 and we remained in their block until 1989. But I will tell you something. It's so hard even in these days to persuade people here that the freedom is important. They say "For what I'm free if I have no money?". They vote for communist(yes, that's fucking damn true) and for social democracts(it's something like moderate communist) and the result is that we have communist in our parliament. I say to those people that when they are free they can use their potential and work hard to make money. But it is hard, because we have still a lot of bureaucracy and regulation here. Fortunately we have now right wing oriented goverment so things has moved better in last 3 years. But social democrats and communist have still 36% of votes together. And social democrats are winning around a Europe and that's why the Europe will never reach to America. People think that government shoudld take care about everything. And it's just not possible. It was not possible in Soviet Union and it will never be possible in Europe Union. So I hope I will win a Green Card Lottery and I will have a chance to come to America.
