Well, we are getting real subjective now. Jonas Salk Wonderful what he did combating Polio. Maybe in a contest for greatest doctor, scientist? There were many more scientist that helped mankind. Philo Farnsworth The inventor of TV? Maybe greatest inventor. Dougles Ebert Inventor of the mouse? Maybe these guys were great inventors but bad Americans? I am not saying they are, I have no idea. I guess the real question is what makes a "Great American."

I mean you (Americans) are hard workers, some have more than one job, and yet some also make charity in they free time. I think this is what makes America great.

I was fairly young when Reagan left office... my first-hand memories of the time are few and vague. Based on what i've seen since then, i'd have a hard time calling him "Great". But love him or hate him, there's little denying that the world would have been a significantly different place today had there been no Reagan, and in the end, perhaps this is the most observable aspect of greatness.

Bill Clinton. :ducks: ;) Ronald Reagan is a good choice. Odd that #1 and #2 are both politicians, both Republicans too...I suppose since it was open to voting, and this seems like a show that would appeal mostly to common conservative folk, it should come as no surprise that Lincoln and Reagan are #2 & #1 respectively. And both Bush Sr. and Bush Jr. are in the top 25? I dunno about that... but I'll save any further comment for the soapbox. :-) *edit* ok, which 2 people voted 1 for this message? Why is everyone so politically sensitive these days? The Bill Clinton suggestion was a JOKE, for those over-sensitive conservatives that didn't get it. Or was the joking suggestion of Clinton ticking off some over-sensitive liberals? I dunno. Sheesh, you can't mention a political figure without inciting a flame war these days.

I awlays though Richard Feynman was a bit of a dude. Still not sure he was the greatest though. Reagan I think is pretty weak. He did a lot, but not that much.
