What a load of crap. If this is true, than even the little bit of respect I *did* have for the Olympics just evaporated. The entire concept has gotten entirely out of control. Did the Canadians deserve the Gold? Well, of course, they did. But handing out two gold medals makes the entire contest a waste of time on the part of everyone involved, including the spectators. There is no such thing as two contestants both being number one. Hell, why don't they just hand a gold medal to everyone who participated. It just shows what a bunch of political louts the IOC is comprised of. If the judges were wrong, then they were wrong, and the IOC should have had the balls to tell the Russians to give the damned medal back. "Thank you, thank you very much" Elvis.
There have been times in the past when (for example) two downhill skiers tied with the same 2:26.44 time (again for example). The resolution of the timer is only hundreths of a second, so there is no way to determine who won. Also, they can't have them ski again because then you could blame any difference on exhaustion from the previous race, conditions, etc. Because of this, they have (a few times), given out dual gold medals and not given a bronze. Please don't start another cold war here. Both Canadian and Russian skaters did well. None of them deserved this scandal, and they are not guilty for all this judgement crap. I think giving them both gold medals was a wise decision. How do you know that they KNEW they didn't deserve the gold? They should have made the russions and the canadians swap medals, and then brought the offending judge(s) out onto center ice and put a bullet in her/their pointed little head(s). Another thing - the russians KNEW they didn't deserve the gold, and you could tell by the way they were reacting on the podium. Maybe the canadian athletes would have made a stronger statement if they had all just left the games en masse. Nah, bullet in the head, and then leave the rotting corpse in the middle of the rink so that every time a skater passes it, the judges are reminded not to screw up anymore. New idea - at the NEXT Olympic Games, put her head on a pike and put it at the entrnce to the olympic village. (I even take exception in College football (American) when a coach ends the game with a tieing field goal. What a wuss. Well, it looks like the IOC awarded the Canadian pairs skaters the gold medal. I guess the Russians got to keep theirs as well. Good for both of them...this was a messy situation. This got me thinking...how many gold medals are produced for the Olympics? I assume there is a fixed number of them, for situations when people tie for the gold. OMG!!! It's harsh but at the same time you're kinda right. Why don't we add this to your list: - People on welfare when they could work (lazy SOBs). I wouldn't kill them, but at least don't give 'em money for beer and cigarettes! Give' em food stamps for milk and bread. And they'd have to work too (pick up garbage in the streets, etc...)
