http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/4/24004.html Look at: http://tom.me.uk/msn/demo.html And http://www.osioniusx.com/ I fixed most problems tweaking my Proxomitron ruleset (http://www.proxomitron.org). But the stuff that can be done really shocks me. And all it takes is some simple script :omg: Regards, Suresh

One ActiveX script can gain full control of your MSN Messenger? Bloody hell, that's frightening. It's a good job I have never trusted MSN for intimate conversations. For beginners to the Internet, it could be very scary. Simon It's one for you, nineteen for me Sonork ID 100.10024

I'm running IE6 on W2K and have installed all the patches MS have released (and not touched any of the default settings) and it doesn't work (pops up a message saying I'm patched against the vulnerability) Clearly MS dropped the ball when it comes to security so let's just hope that the latest flurry of patches and new focus on security will finally bring an end to stuff like this. cheers, Chris Maunder

The problem witrh patches is that users need to install them. I was horrified to learn that out of my friends, none had installed any security updates from Microsoft. I only bother downloading updates for IE etc. I've got w2k, and i'm buggered if i'm downloading that security rollup package they released a few weeks back. Why don't they just call it "The IIS f**k-up fixer package". I just know the installer will detect IIS, and think "ah, he must host a website from here. Ok, download that 900MB patch". Obviously the installer won't think, but you know what I mean. Simon "The more I learn, the more I realize I don't know" - Colin Davies Sonork ID 100.10024

Hey Chris...I'm running IE 5.5 so I don't know if this security patch applies to me. However it was certainly nice to know, which I wouldn't had it not been for codeproject. In saying so, have you ever considered adding a tech news section, specifically geared towards such hot topics? Perhaps this ins't the intended purpose of this site? Just a suggestion. Have a day! There is a tech news section at the bottom right of the homepage but it's not stored (it's just a feed). I guess if this stuff was saved and organised for general browsing then that would be more helpful. cheers, Chris Maunder

This is true, but I seen Chris posted a message and I figured maybe my suggestion would have more impact because it would be directly related to the thread. "An expert is someone who has made all the mistakes in his or her field" - Niels Bohr
