It's not that bad Simon, really. Just download the patch - it won't hurt at all. You'll feel a lot better. Come - join us brother. Join us... cheers, Chris Maunder

No, I refuse. Download, burn, and mail the CD to me, Chris. Just put "Simon, Wales, UK" on the envelope. It's a small country, so it'll reach me just fine. Simon "The more I learn, the more I realize I don't know" - Colin Davies Sonork ID 100.10024

I'm running IE6 on W2K and have installed all the patches MS have released (and not touched any of the default settings) and it doesn't work (pops up a message saying I'm patched against the vulnerability) Clearly MS dropped the ball when it comes to security so let's just hope that the latest flurry of patches and new focus on security will finally bring an end to stuff like this. cheers, Chris Maunder

Hey Chris...I'm running IE 5.5 so I don't know if this security patch applies to me. However it was certainly nice to know, which I wouldn't had it not been for codeproject. In saying so, have you ever considered adding a tech news section, specifically geared towards such hot topics? Perhaps this ins't the intended purpose of this site? Just a suggestion. Have a day! This is true, but I seen Chris posted a message and I figured maybe my suggestion would have more impact because it would be directly related to the thread. "An expert is someone who has made all the mistakes in his or her field" - Niels Bohr

You know what pisses me off... 1. It took MS 54 days to fix this problem. 2. Idiots like this Tom provide sample code so that script kiddies can produce worms like "JS.Menger.Worm". People like Tom are just as responsible as the script kiddies. One ActiveX script can gain full control of your MSN Messenger? Bloody hell, that's frightening. It's a good job I have never trusted MSN for intimate conversations. For beginners to the Internet, it could be very scary. Simon It's one for you, nineteen for me Sonork ID 100.10024

Although it's been some time since I wrote one, I found it particularly scary to realize that when you write an ActiveX control, you have access to the entire Windows API. In other words, the minute someone loads your control, they've just given you the keys to the castle and their box is more or less yours for the taking, file system & all. Needless to say, I have some rather restrictive defaults set on the loading of ActiveX controls... Well, that's the reason that Slashdot articles about Microsoft have a picture of BillG as Borg: http://slashdot.org. -- See me: www.magerquark.de
