In Hobart, we have 4 TV channels and nothing worth watching. In my hotel there are about 10, and it's worse. AND at 3 am there's NOTHING open in Seattle. I thought the US was a service oriented society ? Christian Graus - Microsoft MVP - C++

Just one question, WTF would you stay in Hobart? I think you are officially in BFE....

Christian Graus wrote: No, I'm about to learn actually. I recommend reading http://svnbook.red-bean.com/ [^] Just a side note, you will need some experience with *nix as the subversion was written for *nix and so was the documentation. But shouldn’t be any real trouble. Tortoise SVN on the client side is pretty nice. ------------------------------- DEBUGGING : Removing the needles from the haystack.

You mean you live in Hobart Australia, right? My coffee wasn't working yet, I thought you were saying you were visiting Seattle and staying in Hobart WA, which I can't immagine has more than a gas station, but I can't say because I haven't been out there. as for late night dining there are a few places:

Christian Graus wrote: Damn, I can get a burger at 3 am in HOBART Okay now that’s just insane. How do they expect people to function without nourishment? ------------------------------- DEBUGGING : Removing the needles from the haystack.
sfdougl wrote: How do they expect people to function without nourishment? The locals know the very few places that are open 24hrs, about 1 per square kilometer if you are lucky. Wataburger is the only 24hour burger chain in my area, and it is nowhere near as common as the bigger names, so is hard to find. About 20% or so of the 7-11 stores are 24hour in this region, none in this town though, but in Albuquerque you can find them. At 3am here, walmart superstore, and one other store (which you will have your license photographed and posted in public if you enter) is the only game in town. _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau. In India, we have hundreds of channels, and... *surprise* none are worth watching. I hate TV anyway. Cheers, Vikram.

Same here. He only has 10 channels as he's in a hotel. Most homes also have hundreds of channels with absolutely nothing worthy of diverting my attention from my (mostly) friendly C++ editor. Program Manager - MSDN Online Vista/WPF (Avalon)/XAML MICROSOFT Windows Vista Home Page My Microsoft Blog

Mike Mullikin wrote: Prepare to have many of your preconcieved ideas about the US disproved. Yeah, I expected that. Just not that particular one. Damn, I can get a burger at 3 am in HOBART. Oh, and when I tried to call home, it wouldn't work so I dialled an operator. I can't reverse charges to Australia, I can't pay with VISA, and they tried to correct the number I was dialling by giving me area codes that were obsolete 10 years ago, and told me to dial 55 for Melbourne ( 55 is extreme country Victoria ). I was polite, it's not her fault her info is out of date, but when I hung up, I was still on the call when I listened to dial, and she was telling the staff how I had no idea to call my own country, and I was stupid enough to think they didn't know. It turned out my daughter had disconnected the phone, I tried my way again and it worked. Christian Graus - Microsoft MVP - C++
Only in some very large US cities can you actualkly eat out that late (Las Vegas, Los Angelas, New York) but definitely not Seattle. Program Manager - MSDN Online Vista/WPF (Avalon)/XAML MICROSOFT Windows Vista Home Page My Microsoft Blog

By the way, I should have mentioned in my other post that there are some restaurants that are open 24/7 in any city. I tend to forget them as I'm not usually looking to eat that late :) Denny's and IHOP are two that I can think of. I live near one of the major interstates; there are a number of hotels in the area; so lots of eateries and a shopping mall. I have a 24h McDonalds (if you can truly call that food :) ) within 3 blocks of my place. 0.5 - 1 Mile Denny's, Perkins, IHOP (International House of Pankakes), Ember's All 24 hour. Nada, nothing for stores open that late, except the grocery store. ------------------------------- DEBUGGING : Removing the needles from the haystack.

In West Michigan, I can tune to 5 channels, 3 of which are usually so bad I can't see/hear anything. Only 1 (WZZM13) comes in perfectly clear. Satellite is the only thing available, but it usually sucks in the winter with all the frequent snow storms.
Found on Bash.org [erno] hm. I've lost a machine.. literally _lost_. it responds to ping, it works completely, I just can't figure out where in my apartment it is.

Yep. I actually went back and mentioned Denny's (and IHOP) on a separate post as I typically don't eat there either and also forget it :-D Denny's is so bad that they give you free dinner on your b'day and I still don't go there!
