Christian Graus wrote: The Crusades, the KKK, Nazi Germany, child abuse by clery, Without going into this Laureen discussion, what religion caused Nazi Germany? Nazi means national socialism and they were driven by nationalism, not any religion. In fact, they were often quoting Darwin theory as a justification for their actions.

not to pick nits, but it was actually a anti-religiously motivated. Like you said, Christian Graus wrote: the anti Semetic part of Nazism That's the "ultimate" place where anti-religiousity ends up.

since i hang out in the lounge for light relief, to get away from the stresses of the day, and to chat with the few people here i have started to get to know i tend to ignore the "heavy" threads. as a result i don't have any direct dealings with Lauren, but she does seem capable of holding a reasoned opinion and partaking in an intelligent debate. i am not sure how often that happens, but i have seen it happen. in contrast your post lowers you in my eyes, thus raising the relative level of Lauren, and everyone else in the lounge i pay attention to. it just goes to show, the world can be a strange and mysterious place. zen is the art of being at one with the two'ness

Although, it would be fair to add that in many other cases (Spain in 15th century, Ukraine in 17th, etc...) anti-Semitic movements were religiously motivated.

Thank you for your well said and well thought-out post. It actually wasn't my intent to solicit negative input toward lauren. Rather, I wanted someone to defend her and her point of view. I have yet to see any post that successfully does so. Only attacks. But you have a good point. It was a wrong way to go about it. I sincerely apologize to you and everyone else and especially to lauren.

I think you're fooling yourself with this statement. I don't mean that as an insult to you; rather, I think you have an opportunity here, should you choose to take it, to take a step back from this and seriously ask the question "Why did I feel it necessary to solicit negative feelings about this individual?". If you try to kid yourself by suggesting things like "I wanted someone to defend her" then you've talked yourself right out of that opportunity. You didn't want someone to defend her. You wanted other people to express the same negative feelings about her that you expressed. Seriously, take a good hard look at yourself over this, and I think you'll be the happier for it.

You know, if she were ever to post a picture in the 400X400 size range the page hits would bring the site to it's knees within seconds. Think the number of 500's are bad now... ¡El diablo está en mis pantalones! ¡Mire, mire! Real Mentats use only 100% pure, unfooled around with Sapho Juice(tm)! Actually, the secular nationalist leaders took advantage of the religious xenophobia of the populace in offering the Jews as a scapegoat for Germany's economic and social ills since WWI. Religion was used, but just as a tool.

The next thing you'll tell me is where all the WMD's are in Iraq. ahz wrote: Rather, I wanted someone to defend her and her point of view. No one's going to defend her because: 1) They don't need to, Lauren's a big girl, completely capable to matching wits with anyone here. 2) There's no need to. Lauren didn't post anything that needed defending. She posted a link of dubious intellectual quality (at least for myself, I thought it was kind of bogus), and expressed a personal opinion. Last time I checked, neither of those things were actions that needed defending. You're playing word games and getting off on the attention you're receiving. Many of the top Nazis (including Hitler) were into occultism. The Totenkopf is a symbol directly linked to their fascination of occultism. Occultism is a form of religion, is it not..? :~ -- Look straight into the light!
