Thank you for your well said and well thought-out post. It actually wasn't my intent to solicit negative input toward lauren. Rather, I wanted someone to defend her and her point of view. I have yet to see any post that successfully does so. Only attacks. But you have a good point. It was a wrong way to go about it. I sincerely apologize to you and everyone else and especially to lauren.

You don't go posting in the lounge asking if an individual, by name no less, is a bigot and not expect people to interpret that as anything but a personal, negative, attack. The next thing you'll tell me is where all the WMD's are in Iraq. ahz wrote: Rather, I wanted someone to defend her and her point of view. No one's going to defend her because: 1) They don't need to, Lauren's a big girl, completely capable to matching wits with anyone here. 2) There's no need to. Lauren didn't post anything that needed defending. She posted a link of dubious intellectual quality (at least for myself, I thought it was kind of bogus), and expressed a personal opinion. Last time I checked, neither of those things were actions that needed defending. You're playing word games and getting off on the attention you're receiving. Ah, excellent, I see we've stooped down to ad hominem attacks! Superb! Seriously, if you want to cross sabres with John, you're gonna have to ratchet the levels up a notch or two above this. ahz wrote: lauren is a hateful anti-religous extremist bigot. Many of the top Nazis (including Hitler) were into occultism. The Totenkopf is a symbol directly linked to their fascination of occultism. Occultism is a form of religion, is it not..? :~ -- Look straight into the light!

Sadly I must agree that these are just her opinions. If you have issue with them there's no need to start name-calling here. Let her know privately. If you do believe in God then you will remember the most important commandment of "love your neighbor". Though she might not agree or believe all the more reason to pray for her if you think that will help. I believe in God but I also live by the addage "all things in moderation" and it seems like for some reason today we can't do anything in moderation:sigh: Even political/religious conversations get into shouting matches between the two extremes while the rest of us who apparently just don't care enough get stuck in the middle:sigh: X| ------------------------------------- Do not do what has already been done.

If this forum is a suitable place for Lauren to say "... I just hate religion ..." then Lauren should be ready for those who disagree to do so with vigor and be prepared to discuss. How is we have come to defend such petty hatreds? :(( I believe it would have been better to say that "Is Lauren behaving like a bigot?" Less accusatory. Hopefully, all of us can see the futility of advocating hatred. Hatred is purely destructive yet most religions promote love and helpfulness. I just don't understand how one could hate such things. It occurs to me that it simply isn't possible to hate Religion. It is the failings of human beings that have brought the blemish to it's history all over the globe. Therefore, it must be a hatred of the people. A hatred of worshipers. People who see a rainbow and remember God's promise. We will only destroy ourselves with our hatreds. Ryan Bradley

Actually, the secular nationalist leaders took advantage of the religious xenophobia of the populace in offering the Jews as a scapegoat for Germany's economic and social ills since WWI. Religion was used, but just as a tool.

I never said she can't have an opinion different than mine. Not that she needs my permission, but she can have and hold whatever opinions she wants to. But, if she, or anyone else for that matter, chooses to espouse those opinions, then it is incumbent upon that opinion holder/espouser to be able defend such opinions with thoughful, reasoned arguments. When opinions are made such that an entire class of people are denigrated, then that is not just an opinion, it becomes a stereotype. If someone were to say "green people are lazy" that certainly is an opionion, but it also makes that person a bigot when they hold to an opinion that is so easily disproved. So it is with lauren, she holds that religion causes bad stuff and posts a link of dubious quality to support such a dubious "opinion." When it is pointed out that the article she posted linked to is of poor quality she goes on the offensive and rather than apologize she attacks the individual.
