A New Approach to Virus Prevention

A long time ago, a killer could just walk into a store, and buy a horrible automatic gun, walk out, and begin to kill children. And, consequently, many lives were lost. Then, people who wanted to own sporting firearms were made to fill out pages of worthwile papers, and get background checks, when buying firearms. That has cut down on crime, and saved the precious lives of so many children. Then, there was the assault weapons ban, which further cut down on crime, until armed assault was almost nonexistent. The day that sensible law went out of affect, killers were lined up at the stores of wreckless gun dealers, eager to get their insturments of death so they could kill women and children again. Considering the current problem with viruses, shouldn't programmers have to fill out forms saying that they are not going to write viruses, and get background checks to get their development software? And, shouldn't streamlined development programs which show the method's declarations when typing, and attempt to finish your lines of code be banned, just as guns with rapid fire magazines and pistol grip stocks were? I think that this would greatly reduce the virus problem.

This is obviously an NRA troll who is peeved that he can't easily buy an AK47 anymore to shoot squirrels and coke-cans in the back yard so he is fishing for our sympathy by trying to make us realize how we would suffer if the same unfair restrictions applied to our dangerous dev tools. Not anti-gun at all. I live in Idaho. Here guns are given for birthday presents. I think what has me annoyed is your method. I think I would have respected you a lot had you just brought up gun control and wanted to know what people thought about it. I would have told you that it's almost as affective as just leaving automatic weapons lying on the curb. I think gun control works about as well as the drunk driver campaigns work. You touched on a nerve with your method. That and a real knucklehead has been here lately causing several annoyances by registering a different username each time and then posting a bunch of garbage. I think I would have respected you and *possibly* participated had you taken a different approach. But I'm not anti-gun at all. A *very* long way from it to be sure.:rose:

When I write software for killing squirrels and crushing coke cans he might have a point. In the mean time I will point out a statistic I admittedly haven't checked myself that there are more gun shops than branches of Macdonalds in the US. Maybe someone could tell me if this is so? In the end laws are often a reaction, you have to change the culture about guns which is slow and difficult. The tigress is here :-D

I don't like the ridiculous free access to guns that we have in the USA but I'm to torn in my reaction to that statistic, if true. Big Macs are far more dangerous than guns. ;) Steve T
