VS2005 launch and P.J. Naughter
-
The coolest part of the VS/SQL 2005 launch today was getting to meet P.J. Naughter. I never realised he was from Ireland and just up the road from Waterford to boot. Actually it was a bit funny as I did not even know who he was until after about the third drink down at the pub after Paul Fallon and Nick Grattan had given their talks. Cathal, a co-worker, mentioned the "guy across the table" had built his own observatory and then mentioned his name. Nick Grattan had talked on the XML capabilities of SQL 2005 and afterwards P.J. mentioned to us his forthcoming book and how he and his co-author had figured out some interesting bits such as running .NET code in XSPs against SQL 2000. Seriously smart guy and he knows his MFC/COM/C++ stuff. Anyway, just thought I'd mention the man behind 50 articles on CP. As for the launch event it was interesting and one can't argue with Microsoft paid drinks afterwards. regards, Paul Watson Ireland Colib and ilikecameras. Yeah, I just heard about it earlier. It's called VS 2006 and it will probably be .Net Framework 2.1... So a real question for you Christian. I'm a one man shop that writes code in C++, C# and ASP .Net. I've got a lot of stuff on the cooker. In your opinion (and I realize it's strictly your opinion) should I go to 2005 or should I wait for the first formal fix-release? Do you think it's ready for people to move to it for their commercial work or not? I still cannot believe that they (Microsoft) ignored a lot of feedback and released a product many felt would not be ready. I don't understand what the rush was and it's interesting to me that they are being so careful :~ with Vista and so careless with Visual Studio. Well, anyway... - Rex

While I was reading today's RSS feeds I saw a post that said VS2003 SP1 would be released April 2006 and 2005 SP1 would be released in the first half of 2006. James

Maybe, but I like it. I can't afford to replace my tools every time Microsoft decides to shift paradigms without a clutch, and I appreciate any help they want to offer. I'll gladly take a VS2003SP1 if it will allow me another year of life for my IDE.:-D "...a photo album is like Life, but flat and stuck to pages." - Shog9
