CP Animated Smileys

I've recently noticed that none of the CP smileys are getting animated when reading posts in the forums. They're all animating when writing a post (yeah, I can see the laughing smiley laughing as I write this post), but none of them are animating when reading posts. Check if they're animating on your browser: :laugh: ;P ;) :omg: :wtf: :-O [Edit]They're animating on the preview button, and animating as I posted this message. But they stopped animating after I hide the message (by clicking on the title bar) and show it again.[/Edit] They're fine when I use IE 6.0, but not when I'm using FF 1.0.6. I have the same problem too. :( I use v1.0.4. Maybe David has a point - I'll try upgrading. Let me know if you overcome the problem, and I'll do the same. :) Cheers, Vikram.

They are shy. They are OK when you are just previewing or concentrating on what you are writing and not staring at them directly, but once in a message they get a bit of stage fright and freeze up. Give 'em a break, OK? cheers, Chris Maunder

I have the same problem with 1.0.6. In 1.5 b2 they are working fine, but the Quote Selected Text button isn't working.

I can confirm this. With your message open, if I open the Reply link in a background tab, the smileys in your message start animating. When I collapse and then reopen your message they stop. Doesn't bother me really, animated gifs are annoying at the best of times.

Yeah. I hear it's really nice. I've been using Firefox trunk nightly builds forever, so I haven't checked out the 1.5 branch, but I hear rumors that it's more stable than my current trunk nightlies are. ;P

Yeah, I know there has been critical updates. It's just that I usually wait for a while until all the extensions I use work with the latest release. I don't use FF I installed at work for any critical things like banking so I'm not too concerned. MyXaml is a generic object markup parser and instantiator, and as such, it can instantiate any .NET object that has a parameterless public constructor - including web controls. But it has nothing directly to do with web dev. Marc can do some web dev, but it's certainly not one of his areas of expertise - he mainly leaves that to me. :-D

Totally. :-D For instance, they're working on a lot of the parsing code for CSS and HTML right now in the trunk builds, so some of the CSS rules are totally screwed up. As such, Gmail is completely unusable in the nice AJAXy view. So I've had to resort to the basic HTML view. And it's either Greasemonkey or CPhog, but one of the two has completely stopped working, so I'm typing this reply in the normal reply page. You live on the bleeding edge, you learn to deal with getting cut. ;)

Yay! :-D 1.5 really is nice. The trunk nightlies I use have all the same features, so I know for a fact that the new features are cool. 1.5 is just a lot more stable than the release I'm currently running. ;P Here are the new 1.5 features: Firefox 1.5 Release Notes[^]. They've built in binary diff patching, so now, instead of downloading a whole 6MB nightly build every day, I get tiny ~400K binary diff patches that get applied by the new update system the next time I restart Firefox. (That's what they're talking about when they say that the back and forward buttons have been improved.) Now, the rendered page is cached when you navigate to a different page, so when you click back or forward, it doesn't have to re-render the page from source. It just pulls up the rendered version and displays it. Very cool stuff. :)

There's a patch that changes Firefox to use native theme rendering for the menus that's currently only on the trunk: Native Theme Rendering for Windows XP Menus, toolbars. But there's no way this is going to land on the branch between now and release of 1.5, seeing as how the target milestone is the Gecko 1.9 / Firefox 2.0 timeframe. (Gecko is the rendering engine, Firefox is one of the apps that uses it.
