File difference/comparision tool recommendations

Can anybody recommend a good difference/comparision tool? My company provides CodeWright 6.5, which has this feature, but unfortunately it sometimes crashes when I'm trying to load the files. :| * The tool *has* to be free. It's for use at office. * Syntax highlighting is not essential, but would be nice. * A small IDE with this feature would be just as good, provided it's free. Yes, I googled, but got bored quickly. And recommendations from CP are much better. :cool: Cheers, Vikram.

I don't see why the tool has to be free, especially since it is for use at the office. The fact that

is indeed a very good reason why to move to some other software. I warmly recommend [Araxis Merge](http://C:\Program Files\Araxis\Araxis Merge 2000 Standard\html\AraxisHome.html)[[^](http://C:\Program Files\Araxis\Araxis Merge 2000 Standard\html\AraxisHome.html "New Window")] which is powerful and quite cheap. ~RaGE();

And that's not all. I just discovered this cool concept called "object oriented design". I can't wait to convert my subroutines to class methods! :-D -Ravi Bhavnani on finally installing XP SP2...in December 2005

I also heartily recommend Araxis Merge. Jon Sagara Look at him. He runs like a Welshman. Doesn't he run like a Welshman? Doesn't he? I think he runs like a Welshman. Sagara.org | Blog | My Articles

Because the company doesn't pay for third party tools, and doesn't allow me to install anything that isn't freeware. Cheers, Vikram.

We had araxis merge at our company too, but I have to say that i really did prefer Winmerge. Much easier to handle. But if you want to invest time & money, it seems like a good solution. For quick & free I'd rather chosse Winmerge. The only thing I know Araxis Merge handles is that you are able to merge 2 files if you have got a common predecessor.

I doubt if there are too many companies in India without that attitude. :~ Cheers, Vikram.
