That's not quite true. An oil field extends far past the actually area the easily extracted oil is removed from. Once an 'empty' well is capped and abandoned, the residual oil that extended into the surrounding rock seeps back into the emptied area. Some old wells have been reopened to remove this residual content. However, generally speaking, it is of a lower quality than the original content and hence needs additional refining capacity before coming to market - hence is more expensive. (Unless you have an alternative theory for the spontaneous gneration of oil)

I'm simply unaware of any process that spontaniously generates fossil fuel. I mean, there were only so many fossils, so it would follow that there is only so much oil. Or, are you suggesting that the source of the oil is something else? I've heard many such theories,but I don't believe most of them are widely accepted in the geological community. For example, there is a theory that the source of oil was really organic compounds such as methane trapped in the crust of the earth as it formed originally from the disk of debry the solar system formed from.
