Nothing like cut&paste of the company description. I guess they've moved beyond Java, eh? :) Marc MyXaml Advanced Unit Testing

someone recycled a job description? hehehe I remember my old job description from my previous job read something like (1986): "Junior programmer: responsibilities include training personel, documentation design, application design, system integration, application & system diagnostics, hardware maintenance & diagnostics, multi-platform programming experience including networking and communications. At least 2 years experience in Accounting systems: General Ledger, Inventory, Payroll & Tax code, Accounts receivable & billing, Margin Analysis & Cost prediction. Languages required: RPG, Basic, Cobol, C and Fortran. Operating systems experience required: IBM AS400/S36/S34, Unix, MS-DOS. Salaried/Exempt position, Overtime required. $16,000/year" The title and salary requirement came from my boss, the list of requirements for the job came from me listing what I did and his secretary writing them all down. The ones writing the ads rarely know what they are doing. _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau. Talk about things of tomorrow and the mice in the ceiling laugh. Got to give you credit, so far you're the only one who's been able to come up with a scenario where that job description, as written, makes sense... :-D An expert is somebody who learns more and more about less and less, until he knows absolutely everything about nothing.

Very true, however, the title should still read Java programmer, and it should be highlighted in the skills as well as .NET specifically, so that you know that both are required. But then, I don't worry about hiring, so I don't have to worry about such things. Still sounds to me like they recycled part of an old ad without looking at the content, an easy mistake. _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau. I have to agree, the most plausable explanation is that it was just a standard company profile that was cut and paste. I just thought it interesting how much emphasis they put on their company being 100% java and they are looking for a .NET engineer. It's good that they are looking to expand their technology though.

Yeah it's still very interesting how some businesses soley rely on gauging expertice on how many years a developer has been using a language. The ability to design and architect is more important than knowing a language's syntax in this day and age. I could understand back in the day when there where quarks in C and C++ that could really change a program's meaning when ran on different hardware (i.e. The size of int or long, etc.).

Technically if you had been in on the early pre-beta stuff or started programming for .NET beta 1 the day it came out, you had almost three years worth of experience in .NET by the time 1.0 had been RTMed for six months. But I doubt that's what they meant. ;)
