Suppose you are flying from point A to point C via point B. You plan to stay a couple of days at point B, and you don't want to carry around your entire baggage during your stay at point B. The most comfortable option would be if the point B airport provided some baggage storage service. Now my question is, do airports actually provide such storage services for transit travellers? Thanks Smitha Every problem has a gift for you in its hands. -- Richard Bach

Some do. It depends on the airport. And it is most common in airports where a lot of international travellers "connect." Another possibility is to go to a nearby Greyhound (or similar) bus station. They will have lockers for rent as well. Good luck. ---sig---

So it'd depend on which airport you are flying through. Thanks Smitha Every problem has a gift for you in its hands. -- Richard Bach

Used to be very common, rather less so since 9/11. Much easier to just travel light.

Another possibility is to have your bags shipped to you via FedEx or DHL or UPS directly to your hotel/residence where you'll be staying in point C. Then only take with you what you will need for those couple of days at point B. I've heard of people doing this quite successfully. It avoids all the checkin hassles, etc. ---sig---

Nish, be nice to Smitha. She's a very beautiful woman who seems quite nice and if I weren't happily married, I'd go for her. And I'm sure there's quite a few other guys who would, too. Just a friendly comment. :-D ---sig---

I've heard of people doing this, but doesnt it get pretty costly? Wouldn't it be much cheaper to tip a baggage handler at the airport?

 Probably also worth mentioning that it's usually easier to leave half the stuff you think you're gonna need at home, and just buy it if/when you actually do need it. Obviously, if you're going camping hundreds of miles away from civilization, then that's not gonna work... but most everywhere else has things like shirts and toiletries available at reasonable prices. And most prices are reasonable, compared to what you pay for airport storage or extra checked luggage...

I suppose it might get expensive, I really don't know. But, compared to storage at some facility it might not be that much more. ---sig---

Together, the two of us can carry 46 Kg of luggage when flying internationally, and domestic Indian flights allow the same if you are a traveller from US/Canada. Considering the fact that the high air-ticket rates are inclusive of the default baggage rates, why would I carry less than permitted :-D, especially if I have to take significant effort in deciding what to cut down from my travel list  Cheers Smitha Every problem has a gift for you in its hands. -- Richard Bach

Exactly. I suggest you carry stuff to the fullest extent allowed. Get the stuff weighed first before you board on the plane. Keep the precious stuff in hand baggage. Last time we carried exactly the maximum allowed by the airline. You need pressure cookers, wet grinders, mixers, clothes, sweets and so on an on. It's a pity that airlines have reduced the weight.

Yes in the airport you could check in your bags. Also in Thailand there are sleepy rooms that you can go and take a nap. Better yet in Miami airport, there is a hotel that when traveling to Europe we normally stop for a layover to take a nap! Traveling with kids is the best idea. You can actually leave a bag on the hotel for when you come back. Thought you wanted to know Al My eMail control
