My Palm V (yes, I know, it's a very old PDA, but it worked 'til yet and it is as small as the new ones) died (the touch screen recalibrates itself in a short time...). So I am looking for a new toy PDA. As I maybe want to write some own little applications I would prefer to buy a Windows PDA, as I am used to .NET and Windows. Because I don't wan't a pda that is old when I buy it (ok, in the IT world every product is old from the point that it is released), I am looking for a device with Windows Mobile 5.0, not with Windows Mobile 2003. WLAN IEEE 802.11b and bluetooth are mandantory, resolution of course I prefer VGA, but I can live also with QVGA, GPS is nice to have but not realy needed. What PDA do you use, what positive and negative experiences have you made with it? Greets and nice weekend Roland

You have one of these? I was looking at it but I'm not sure if I want to make the investment yet. Do you have Verizon service? [EDIT]Er.. do they have Verizon in Ireland? :~ [/EDIT] ------------------------------------- Do not do what has already been done. Sorry, I forgot to say that I don't like to have the phone inside the PDA.

Do you own a N311? Why have you chosen this one and not another model/vendor? thanks and greets Roland

You might want to check out the fujitsu-siemens Loox series. The Loox N series have GPS and I believe they are available with QVGA and VGA screens

I wonder... Have you even truly used one of the Windows Pocket PC (not just played with it)? I have used Palm, Windows CE, and Windows Pocket PC and frankly I will likely never go back to a Palm O/S. While Windows CE certainly had many warts (and was a reason I briefly went to a Palm), the handwriting recognition in the Windows Mobile 2003 is far superior to the Graffiti style of writing. I could never get used to changing my handwriting style to suit the Palm, Nor am I particularly fond of typing into mini keyboards. With the Transcriber in Mobile 2003 I can write in my own handwriting and over 95% of the words come out correct. Quite possibly this is even better in Windows Mobile 5 but I have not had a chance to use it yet. I have installed Pocket Adobe to read PDF articles when I am waiting for my spouse or kids. Pocket Word is also pretty darn nice with the handwriting recognition. I've written complete letters to clients in Pocket Word with a fair degree of accuracy and minimal inefficiency and only needed minor editing after syncing it. I have written some applications in VS 2003/2005 to improve my productity including an hourly billing tracker that uses a fairly simple windows user interface and SQLite embedded database to store the data. [SQLite has a .Net driver and the SQLite database is small and efficient compared to SQL Server Mobile]. I'm not saying that you cant do this with Palm devices either, but I can build the applications I need, using the tools I know. That IMHO is a compelling reason to stick with a Pocket PC. If you are still carrying around Windows CE baggage it might be time to take another look at what Windows Mobile has to offer. Just my 2 bits. David

You might want to check out the Axim X51v. It's got vga and it can output to a montior so you can play Batman Returns or Office Space on the your montior during a coffee break. Not that I ever did that... no.... :-O It does have 802.11b and bluetooth and they use Mobile 5.0 instead of my X50s Mobile 2k3. I can use the core media player to play pretty much any file I can get from the internet so that makes watching anime at a restaurant fun but I do recommend getting an SD card before even thinking about that. The only bad thing I can think of right now is that sometimes the screen doesn't always respond correctly and Windows Vista Feb CTP couldn't recognise it. -- modified at 15:24 Saturday 22nd April, 2006 Oh and here's a link to look it up. http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/category.aspx/pda?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs[^]
