So far I have only tried to run it in a Virtual PC. The result was that it pegs my CPU (3.0GHz 2GB memory) at 100%. The VPC is almost unusable (10-15 seconds to bring up control panel, even in windows classic UI mode). Of course it was still busy trying to index all the files after an hour, so maybe it'll settle down if I let it run long enough to finish...(cab't change the indexing settings or stop the indexer until its done, as far as I can tell. In Vista UI mode it was utterly unuseable (2 minutes to call up display settings so I could turn it off). I can understand this to a degree, since the VPC graphics adapter is all emulation, but was dissappointed that it didn't figure that out on its own and default to windows classic. In fact, the system performance tools shows all aspects of the "hardware" to be "green" - ok to run Vista... Underwhelmed so far...

What I had missed was WinFS, Monad and a thought-out UAC, and a proper system-wide software management (keeping all software up-to-date) Right now I'll stick to WinXP (games, development) and Linux (all other stuff). Btw. could you do me a favor? In the last build I tested, Vista did not allow me to use a slash "/" in my PPPoE username. Could you open up that wizard and try to enter a username with a slash in it? thanks regards

Why are you so defensive? It is just a tool. I've been using it for a week and I think that Aero Glass is CRAP. Is there any real reason for the transparent windows? If you already own Windows 2000, then an upgrade may seem pointless. But the fact is that XP runs way more smoothly than Windows 2000. It boots faster, it executes faster, and it looks better (even classic mode), at least in my experience. I probably won't use Vista until 2008. (I buy computers every three years :))
