I feel your pain. :rose: We're about to go through the same experience - the machine (an Athlon x2 5000) is on order, and once it arrives (it should be pre-installed with XP Pro) the boot drive is being moved into a SATA caddy so we can play the multi-boot game with minimal risk. On top of that we've three new 320GB SATA disks ready - currently the plan is to use one for data, one for Vista and the other for Win2k3. :cool: We'll probably dabble with XP64 at some point, but most likely only inside a VM to see how well our software copes with it. We've not had any support queries regarding XP64 yet, so it's not a huge priority I suspect. As usual I'm not looking forward to installing all the dev tools though - to support our testing we'll need VS6, eVC4.0, VS2002, VS2003 and VS2005, although we use VS2003 for the vast majority of our work.

While I think Karthik was shooting off his mouth, your statement is at the other extreme. :) You have versions of Windows/Office for languages that spoken by only a few millions, but they have no* Indian language versions. Many of these languages have 50 million+ speakers. I do recall some news about a Hindi version of Windows, but I don't know if it came out. * Not that I care personally - I can't imagine using a Hindi, or even Marathi (my native tongue) version of Windows over an English version. :rolleyes:

I have windows x64 installed with Visual Studio 2005 IIS6 ASP.NET 2.0 with the x64 SDK AND Sql Server 2005 x64. The Problem: If you want to use Reporting Services for example, well, you have to install the x86 SDK, so, you'll have to install all the rest in x84 X| , because if you have the db in the same computer it will not work with x64 Sql and x86 Reporting Services & SDK..... So..... Big regrets, I spent like 800U$S, I should have bought a nice x86 PC... :doh: Anyway...

The current plan seems to be to install the US English version of Windows, then install a Language Interface Pack for the language you're interested in. The localised version is fully translated while a LIP is approximately 80% translated (so they say). Microsoft don't seem to be adding that many new localised versions, but they are working on new LIPs. I subscribe to Michael Kaplan's blog[^]. He often posts when a new LIP is completed and available for download. See here[^] for his description of a LIP. To download a specific one, go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=0db2e8f9-79c4-4625-a07a-0cc1b341be7c&displaylang=en[^] and change the 'Language' drop-down to the one you want.

That's the big problem with 64-bit on desktop machines - lack of drivers. It's great on servers that run with tons of memory and 64-bit server apps, but on normal work machines, not so much. When I got my Athlon laptop, I didn't even consider using a 64-bit OS on it.
