No. You are your country's ruler (in what ever form that takes). Countries can join a region. They can also join the United Nations.

I've recently found an online game called Nation States[^] where you create and control a country. You can join a region, become a member of the UN (or not). The game time runs slowly, the UN even slower, so you only need to make one or two moves per day. As you are the ruler of your country you can decide the direction your country takes. You can turn it into a psycotic dictatorship or a stable democracy. You can found it on capitalist principles or attempt to make it a socialist utopia. Come and try it out. I've created a region called "The Code Project" for anyone here to be part of the same region. In order to become a member of "The Code Project" region you'll need the password. That password is:

If you are unable (or don't want) to get the same name for your country as your CPian user name please introduce yourself once you arrive in the region. One quick piece of advice: To make the game more interesting select "Two issues per day" in your settings. That will generate two things per day that your populace are concerned about and you may wish to enact laws about (or even just ignore it) I hope to see you there!

The Free Land of Patagonialand is a tiny, socially progressive nation, notable for its absence of drug laws. Its compassionate, hard-working, intelligent population of 5 million hold their civil and political rights very dear, although the wealthy and those in business tend to be viewed with suspicion. The large, corrupt, liberal government is mainly concerned with Religion & Spirituality, although Healthcare and Social Welfare are secondary priorities. The average income tax rate is 24%. A substantial private sector is led by the Cheese Exports industry, followed by Uranium Mining and Automobile Manufacturing. Crime is a problem, and the police force struggles against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Patagonialand's national animal is the Woman and its currency is the pu94. Civil Rights: Excessive Economy: Good Political Freedoms: World Benchmark

The Emirate of Dane Virke is a tiny, economically powerful nation, remarkable for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 5 million are either ruled by a small, efficient government or a conglomerate of multinational corporations; it's difficult to tell which. There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, pro-business individuals devotes most of its attentions to Law & Order, with areas such as Social Welfare and Religion & Spirituality receiving almost no funds by comparison. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Woodchip Exports, Pizza Delivery, and Information Technology industries. Crime is a major problem. Dane Virke's national animal is the dodo, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the DV Dollar.
