I ran into horrendous stability problems about a week ago. It had been gradually getting worse and worse. Bad, non-killable hangs for example. many have said that extensions are the chief culprit. Rather unfortunate as it's extensions that are the "killer application." Anyway, I discovered that two major problems are the download manager (I deleted all the downloads from it an now keep it to a manageable size) and Firebug (I've disabled it). Since then it's been much more stable. Still uses a lot of memory - up to 200k but does seem to periodically give it back, as it's claimed to do. But I'd never observed that before.

Firefox is related to Netscape and now Google, so, umm, well, ummm, what should I download instead? If that's the church and that's the state I'm effed.
There is one browser out there probably not related to anyone and suitable for everyone. Lynx[^] You will love it.

i keep firebug disabled. i run Greasemonkey (because i have a few scripts to strip comments from certain blog commenters) and nothing else. just loading David Byrne's Journal kills this latest version of FF for me, every single time. and i get random crashes two or three times a day. this never happened with the last version.

Oh, wow. I used Lynx as my primary browser for... hmm, at least three years in the early '90s. It was amazing how slow Netscape seemed by comparison!

I'm pretty sure the percentage is higher than 15. In fact, I'd say it's about double that. Are you trying to imply that "techies" are not "normal" :)

Why on earth not? It's easily the best browser out there from many different points of view. The only reason I don't use it as my main browser is CodeProject is nearly completely incompatible with it for mysterious reasons.

Well, that should be enough reason for anyone... :) Jokes aside... I tried Opera some time ago (like 2 years ago, I believe). Didn't like it. Besides it had lots of ads. After Opera I tried Firefox and liked it. It has this cool features that at the time neither IE nor Opera had, such as the tabs window. But that was a while ago, I know. Maybe Opera is better now (from my point of view). But I don't really feel like changing. I'm really used to FF and have no reason at all to switch. Well, I tried to when IE7 was released (I even tried the betas X|), but no thanks. Perhaps, if one day my dogmatic point of view about the topic becomes a little more flexible, I'll try Opera again.
