about: RealBasic Did someone test this already? What do you think about the introduction of there developer language? "REALbasic is highly compatible with Visual Basic, so Visual Basic developers are productive very quickly with REALbasic." Do you think people are waiting for it when we have a sort of .NET framework for Linux? And if it does get accepted by the public, does it make a chance on codeproject.com?

At it's core, this means REALBasis has really ugly syntax and annoying rules that make no sense whatsoever. The world is definately not waiting for REALBasic.

This sounds promising, though: "REALbasic also comes with a utility to help convert Visual Basic projects to REALbasic where they can be compiled for Windows, Mac, even Linux -- with the click of a checkbox."

Most of the comments you got so far seems to be from people who have not really used it and commented based on the word Basic.

It is a pretty good tool and has been around for a quite some time. It does differ from basic in many ways. I did play with it for sometime when investigating cross platform development and I liked what I saw. However, due to the specific requirements of my project it was not possible to use it.

Errm. I did use it, I just didn't really like it. To be honest, cross platform applications tend to have to take the lowest common denominator, i.e. the things that are common across all platforms. I just really don't like being constrained that way - especially as our customers are all Windows users anyway.

For cross platform we have Java isn't it? Not that it is my favorite language, but I see people doing nice stuff with it. ;-)

We do indeed have Java, but I come back to the point that most of our customers use Windows so the cross platform stuff is largely irrelevant to me.
